Britain's Prince Harry on Thursday ruled out visiting Auschwitz as atonement for wearing a Nazi uniform at a party just two weeks before the 60th anniversary of the death camp's liberation.

Jewish groups had demanded the 20-year-old grandson of Queen Elizabeth make the symbolic gesture as a way of apologizing for wearing a swastika armband and an army shirt with Nazi regalia at a costume party. The prince has apologized for his 'mistake' but Jewish rights groups and politicians said he should do more.

Were you offended by Prince Harry wearing a fake Nazi uniform to a private costume party?

I can't believe what a fuss this has made.

He young, let him make mistakes, he's making light of a situation and he probably regrets it so bad thanks to you f*ckers who've decided to not let him forget it.

Leave him alone.

Its his life. Let him do what he wants.

I wasn't personally offended, but it wasn't a smart move. He's in the public eye, and should have known what he was doing would cause trouble.

what kaneda said.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 1/22/05 - 12:33:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
I thought it was stupid that he tried to pass it off like he didn't know why it was so wrong.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 1/22/05 - 1:07:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
I didn't see why it was so wrong - it was dumb, and it's not something I'd do, but I think the reaction he got was over the top. He should have acted more sorry though, his apology was pretty lame and refusing to go to Auschwitz was lame too.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 1/22/05 - 1:18:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was not offended by it in the least.

I feel too much was made of it.

Why should the guy "act" more sorry. I would rather have a genuine apology than have someone "act" as though they were sorry.

It was private party he was attending, and it is high time the assh*le photographers stop following people around. Do we really need to know if a person wads or folds the toilet paper when they wipe their ass?

No, not really

Brett said it.

On the same day that the Prince Harry story was all over the front pages of the newspapers, the story about Le Pen calling Nazis "not so inhumane" (http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/01/13/... was put somewhere towards the back.

I don't know whether that link works. If it doesn't, try this one http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/416996 3.stm

yes, he's old enough to realize that he is constantly in the public's eyes and what he does represents a lot about Great Britain. He brought shame to the royal family by apathetically wearing the nazi uniform...give me a break, there are millions of other costumes..he had to pick the costume that represents murdering millions by an evil dictator??? geeezzz
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 1/22/05 - 8:42:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
"NO PRINCE HARRY IS HOTT!!!!!!!!!!"

I just made an audible sigh and said 'for f*cks's sake...'

I'm really getting fed up of these airheaded teenage girls.

anti-semitism is not to be made light of, especially considering the death of six million jews, but i suppose he has every right to do it. may i ask why?
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 9:37:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
He's an antisemite because he wore a swastika to a COSTUME party? If I wear a french maid outfit to a costume party does that make me a french maid?
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 10:13:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wasn't offended, but it was a stupid, attention whoring thing for a Prince to do. In todays society people do things that they think are funny, which in reality only a crack head would do.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 10:18:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, but I'm not Jewish.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 11:29:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wasnt offended by it at all, but i thought it was pretty lame.
I mean why would he wear that?
Hes in the publics eye.
He should know better then to wear something liek that, unless to wanted to get a rise out of people, which he certainly did.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 12:57:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
From what I read, he thought it was a totally private party and that no media would be there. Which doesn't make it right, but I don't think it makes him an anti-Semite.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 12:59:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
It didn't offend me, but like Hera said, he shouldn't have passed it off like he didn't know about it. Who doesn't know about Nazis?
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 1:00:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, you should see Nazi uniforms in Japan and on anime/in manga etc. Maybe the UK should stop being so backward and in the past, I'll be glad to move out of here!

As for what the Nazis did, yes they were terrible but get over it. Bin Laden killed thousands of people but people still think it's funny when people mock him on the TV.

17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 1:30:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've never seen an anime with Nazi uniforms, but there's probably at least one. You also see nazi uniforms in movies like Schindler's list though.

Bin Laden's killed thousands, Hitler killed millions. And people also find it funny when Hitler is mocked on TV.

We're talking about a member of the Royal Family though. There isn't really a comparison between that and a sitcom.

17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 2:15:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was pretty surprised he would do something that ignorant. But he IS young. I feel sorry for him anyway. His mother died when he was 12.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 1/23/05 - 2:20:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, it was a pretty bad idea.
