Yes, how odd...I was just discussing this the other day with someone and I told him how I wished everyone was on equal terms.

yuh we should!!

If there weren't we'd make them up. If only for marketing, sociogeograhpic purposes or social downward comparison purposes (so you can feel good about yourself).

No it's natural to have someone above and someone below and the current system is quite healthy.
Proof that this is natural can be seen by looking at history eg Russia. Communism soon began to have classes even if they weren't spoken.

As surveyaholic stated... it is called Communism and it doesn't work. It fails miserably. In fact, it degrades into something far worse than the class system, because people are not meant to be equal. Sure, I feel sorry for the homeless and I despise the pointlessly rich, but I accept my place in society because without stepping on the poor and getting handouts from the rich, I would hate EVERYONE. Now, wouldn't that be horrible? I would want to punch, bite, and claw my way above them simply because it would (to be crude) make me more of a suitable mate. It is human nature. And animal nature. Period.

just because it hasn't worked in the past doesn't mean it could never work...

what russia had was not true communism was a totalitarian government that called itself communist...there's a big difference...there has never been a true communist state.

NO. People who work hard all their life do not deserve to be in the same class and lazy good-4-nothing bums.

it's not so much about not having classes as the ability of a person to change classes. If you're a middle-class american, it is entirely within your reach to become anything from a mega-billionaire to homeless. if you're any "class", really, you can change your circumstances. I think we need classes if only as a measure of how one is doing materially..

It'll never happen. The classless society, I mean. People are too easily corruptable.

^ I agree.
You'd always have people saying "My hair is better than your hair" or whatever.'

Has anyone read Harrison Bergeron? It's about a society in the future where everybody is equal. Handsome people must use masks, the goverment controls the thoughts of intelligent people and stuff.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 2/19/05 - 5:04:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
Most students would be happier without anything to do in school.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 2/19/05 - 11:47:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
Ha, it wouldn't matter. Society doesn't stop treating you like dirt at only how much money one makes. It's many other things.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/20/05 - 2:40:53 AM EST (GMT-5)
we'll be striving for a long time...yeah let's not waste our time and thought on that...
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/20/05 - 8:58:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
Ideally, yes.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/20/05 - 10:41:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm dumb about this subject but in my opinion, it doesn't matter because people will always class themselves anyway. People will always compete and try to be better than their 'rivals' -- and to always have an us vs. them attitude.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/20/05 - 4:36:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
You mean communism? Sure, but it's impossible due to human nature and things really won't work out that way.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 3/19/05 - 3:09:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
wouldn't that be comunism?
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 3/19/05 - 3:20:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
No we shouldn't strive to abolish classes we should merely try to make them more balanced. You can't have a society of all chiefs with no Indians but the gap between the rich and poor should stay within certain confines. This mainly means that the poor should not get too poor, there should be no ceiling on how rich you can get though.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 3/25/05 - 10:27:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
You can't just stop their being classes. That's like. Communism.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 3/26/05 - 10:42:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
im a socialist through and through so yes.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/4/05 - 10:44:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
