It depends on his reason for leaving her. If it was just because he didn't want to deal with the stress of her situation, then yeah, he's really insensitive. But if her having cancer was just the the final part of an ongoing problem, it's a little more understandable.

I think he's horrible for his awful hair and lumpy, doughy face. The whole leaving-the-wife-thing just makes him a little worse in my book.

I think it was sweet of his wife to suffer for someone else. Not many people are willing to do that. She must have a bit of Messiah in her.

does the age of the other woman matter? I'm sure he had his reasons. Not being american, I've not heard any of this and couldn't care less (I wouldn't care if it was an english politician, either), but did she want thim around? Marraiges break up. Especially under stress. So waht, is it your business? None of it is really anyone's buisness.

i think he's a slime ball...he brought her the divorce papers while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery...he could have at least waited until she was home from the hospital...don't usually give a drat about politician's personal lives but this really is just inexcusable...the fact that he left his wife isn't what bothers me...it's when...

I sure can't defend him and to make matters worse I heard that he's going to run for President in 2008. Can you imagine? Yuck!

And he says it's immoral for a gay couple to get married. He needs to start taking a look at his own morals - the sleeze.

"I think it was sweet of his wife to suffer for someone else." lol brett_weir beat me to it. What a horribly constructed question. Yes, Newt is horrible, for a variety of reasons, including this, which illustrates perfectly the hypocrisy part of his horridness.

Not that it really makes a difference to you DoMo, but Clinton was impeached for lying under oath--not for having sex...
