yes, those pills keep down "problems" which can, a lot of the time, lead to a creative break though like he great thinkers mentioned.

I don't think so, true creativity isn't a result of insanity.

If all the great authors who committed suicide were on meds instead, then (I'm just estimating here) about half would be drugged up. Who knows what effect it would have had on their works? Considering that the likelihood for depression is higher, there's some correlation there, if not even causality.

I think that the only psychological drugs that should be taken should exist only in an institution. They exist mainly to make somebody richer.

well, it's always nice to observe results of someone else's creativity. but that person doesn't necessary appreciate the disorders that make them creative. i'd rather give up all of my artistic abilities than experience what vincent van gogh went through. it is rather selfish to want mentally ill people remain ill, just for the sake of art candy they produce.

Oh my NO.. don't worry, society will ALWAYS have it's crazy people despite all those silly pills. Perhaps there will be a bit more sane people.. but it's hard to tell with the use of drugs becoming ever so popular in this generation. It's almost sad...if you see how many teenagers you know who do drugs. Ahh

No because nobody forces them to keep the pills and these pills stop suicide, thus keeping them alive to write longer

"over-medicating children to the point of making them lose the creativity" Ruining creativity in children is primaraly done by limiting free playtime where they have to make up their own game. Vincent van Gogh only became ill after he drank to much Absinth.

I have a hard time believeing that illnesses give people creativity. Most of these drugs don't surpress the creativity, just the want to expresses it. That's why you don't put kids on to much and get them into situations where they can easily so they learn to in an undisrupting and safe way. People arn't brillient because they're crazy.

I agree with forko. "No, i'm sorry, you'll have to keep existing in a chaotic hell on the off-chance you might be creative." How would THAT feel?

i think they are bad. they put me on anti-depressants when i was 10 years old, and my mom took me off three months later. i haven't been on them since, and now i hear that the medication they gave me actually increases suicidal tendancy. i think it's fairly ironic.

I think kids are over diagnosed. I know so many kids on whatever kind of drugs for hyper activity, and it saddens me, because they seem lifeless. My son is active, and creative, and yah, every now and then he gets to the point where I am at wits end trying to keep him occupied, but I don't think he is hyper active. he's just a kid with one hell of an imagination, and I'd prefer he gorw with that imagination than to have days filled with peaceful, mind-numbing sanity.

tv takes away creativity more, but yes i agree. and has anyone else noticed how it is extremely rare for hollywood to come up with new ideas lately? everything is either ba remake, sequel, or a new twist on an old idea. We stick kids in schoolall day, then schedule all theyre free after school time, when do they have time to play? and we wonder why they cant sit still. medication for depression is to correct chemical imbalances, but doctors just assume you have an imbalance, they never do tests, thats why i refuse my meds. i have ptsd. so my depression is a symptom of my disease, not an imbalance.

Yes. A few crazy creative geniuses will go through the cracks and thus be allowed to continue in fine arts.
