It sort of depends on how Bush's presidency goes. But the chances aren't too likely. I think America will have had enough of the right-wing Republicans by the time Bush is done.

We'll see, but I think the polarized demographics among voters in this past election will give Bush reason to continue his right-wing skew. You know how politicians don't bother campaigning in a state they have no chance of winning? The same is true among demographic groups and when someone has already won another term. Bush no longer needs to pretend to give a damn what anyone other than his Saudi Arabian family friends and big donators want. That could very well pave the way for an even worse candidate in '08.

No. I think by then America will be sick of "far right" and far left" screwballs. No side wants to listen to the other. I think and I hope by then we'll be ready to seek out that "middle of the road" candidate.

Of course. The majority of the nation has already voted and shown that they would like to see more fiscal conservation.

God, I hope not. Hopefully, the nation will be sick of right-wingers after Bush has finished making a mess this second term.

AndyBArron, with all due respect, I don't think you have ever experienced far left in the US. We didn't in Canada. Democrats would be considered center at the best here.

A very slim chance, perhaps. I won't be voting for them. That picture on the right isn't Ann Coulter, is it?? I can't remember what she looks like.

It's a rare case when a non-moderate gets elected. Bush is one of the most extreme presidents in a while, but he is still much closer to the middle than a lot of Republican senators and governors.

What has Bush done that makes him "one of the most extreme presidents in a while"?

I only mean that he's farther from center than his predecessors in office. There is hardly a single issue he's supported in his presidency that has gained much support from non-Republicans. He's very good at pleasing 51% of people.

I don't think the lack of support from the other side is because of unreasonable issues. I think it's more an issue of partisanship on the Democrats part. All the votes tend to follow party lines. The Medicare reforms that the Dems had been pushing for years didn't get support because Bush starting pushing them. When GWB talked about the Social Security system being in crisis, the response from the Dems was accusations that GWB was 'manufacturing' a crisis and the state of SS wasn't that bad--even though Clinton and Gore both spoke often of the SS crisis during their time in office. It seems that no matter what he does, the Dems refuse to give him their support. They care more about bashing Bush than they do about getting their issues addressed.

You are, of course, correct that opposing parties will always oppose just for the sake of opposing. I'm not trying to say that Bush's ideas are right or wrong. All I'm saying is that he's more controversial because is more conservative that his dad or Reagan, and I also think Carter and Clinton were closer to center. He may be the best president in history, but it's hard to deny that he's 100% conservative.

I really don't believe that he's really all that conservative. He's definitely to the left of Reagan and his dad...
