I might think they were smarter than average in Chemistry, but not necessarily in everything else. For example I do very well in English and the Social Sciences but I am terrible at things like Algebra.

I may automatically assume they were a bit more dedicated to their studies than the average bear.... but as far as being smarter, I agree with JazzBaby...

I wouldn't think they were any better or smarter than me, just a little crazier for majoring in Chemistry, lol.

My dad has a BS in chemistry, but I'm smarter than him in certain areas.

I hate chemistry. The chemistry courses I had to take for my major were nightmares. To sum it up, I'd dislike the person who's getting the degree in chemistry!

Only if they were cranking out the MDMA... now that is an impressive use of a chemistry degree.

i'd be more keen to thinking they were just good at scientific thinking, and probably also fooled into thinking they were smart. this seems to be the trend with such science enthusiasts i know.

No, I would assume that they were interested in science.

No, I know one chem student and he isn't smarter than average. Esspecially if they were only working on a degree. Anyone can work for a chalenging degree, but it wouldn't matter if they couldn't get it.

they may be smarter in that particular field, but not in general no. there is a good chance they are quite hard workers though

Getting a degree in chemistry? No, yes they are smarter than average. But I am still smarter. I already have a degree in physics and I'm going for another. Chemistry is physics without thought. Mathematics is physics without purpose.

SachsMachine: Very funny. But I'd say Physics is Chemistry looking for an application. Actually, I think BioChemistry is harder. When I went for BioChem, I had to take every course required by both Chemistry and Biology majors (which includes all but one required math course for math major).

Doesn't it depend on their grade? I knew someone who took a BSc degree, but didn't work hard enough for it. That doesn't make a person smart. If they have done well however, I'd say they're smart as far as that subject goes and because of the choices they made.
