(AP) Known for its $30-a-pound Kona coffee beans, $20-a-pound chocolate-dipped cookies, posh $1,000-a-night hotel suites and $1 million ocean-view condos, the west coast of Hawaii's Big Island is now cashing in with another pricey offering: $6 bottled water from the bottom of the ocean.

Desalinated deep-sea water from Kona is the state's fastest-growing export with demand soaring in Japan. Super-cold water sucked up from thousands of feet below the Pacific Ocean's surface is being marketed as healthy, pure, mineral-rich drinking water. Koyo USA Corp. already is producing more than 200,000 bottles a day and says it can't keep up with demand in Japan, where it sells 1.5 liter bottles of its MaHaLo brand for $4 to $6 each.

Sure. I'd try it once just to see what it's like. If I liked it I may continue to get it. But at $6 bucks a pop it had better be darn good.

No, I'm not paying $6 for bottled deep-sea water when I can easily buy "old-fashioned" bottled water for much less.
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 10/21/04 - 6:03:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
oh, I'd love to try it! I'm a bottled water freak!
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 10/21/04 - 10:43:25 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah that's pretty expensive - I drink Fiji, which is one of the more expensive bottled waters, and it's about $3 for 1.5 liters. This deep sea stuff is twice that and I can't see it tasting any better or having a lot more minerals. Plus there are some scary things in the deep sea - it creeps me out. So the water those weird monster creatures have been swimming in creeps me out too, even though all water is recycled a million times over anyway
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Friday 11/19/04 - 8:00:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd drink it but I wouldn't buy it.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 11/20/04 - 11:42:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
At that price? No way!
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 11/20/04 - 11:44:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. $6 for a bottle?
I don't think so.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/25/04 - 10:09:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd try it if they gave it to me for free.
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Monday 11/29/04 - 12:17:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, I would want free samples
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Wednesday 12/22/04 - 5:09:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
i'd drink it if i got a free sample...but there is no way i'm paying $6 for a bottle of water!
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Wednesday 12/22/04 - 5:12:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
I would try it for sure, but I'm not forking out that much for it!
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Wednesday 12/22/04 - 5:32:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
I won't pay that for water. It is no different than most other bottled water, and there is no difference between those, it doesn't matter what you say.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 3/19/05 - 7:44:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
sure i would drink it, but im not paying 6$ for a freakin bottle of water!!
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 3/19/05 - 8:00:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure. 6 dollars isn't much.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 3/29/05 - 9:09:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would try it once, but that's it... tap water is the water for me
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 3/29/05 - 10:21:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would try it once, even at $6, just out of curiosity.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 3/30/05 - 8:40:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
Trust the Japanese to come up with that one ;)
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/26/05 - 9:13:18 AM EST (GMT-5)
I can't see that as being good for the environment. I would not drink it even if it was free. The pumping station... the threat to the sea animals... I'll pass
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/26/05 - 9:58:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
Probably not.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/26/05 - 10:20:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, it's probably just tap water anyway.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/26/05 - 10:50:24 AM EST (GMT-5)
Don't drink water, fish f**k in it.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/26/05 - 10:56:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
Oh grow up, Brunnen..

If it were less expensive, maybe.

17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/26/05 - 11:13:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
Grow up. What for?

There are people wanting to pay £12 for a bottle of water, I'm going to take the piss out of them, simple as that. If you're dumb enough to part with that kind of money for the money, purile jokes are the only ones you're going to understand.

Vote Bush (ban waxing)

17 yrs ago - Sunday 5/1/05 - 4:29:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's too pricey for me, really.
17 yrs ago - Tuesday 5/24/05 - 10:36:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
Water? Doesn't that come out of the faucet? And isn't that much more convenient, not to mention cheap?
