depends on what needs to be done. if it's something simple i make my friend do it :) well that was when i drove an older car. now i have a newer one...might not be doing that anymore.

when i drove an older car, i did all the work myself. now i have a new car, and theres really no work that i can do to it. too many wires, sensors, and computer chips.

If it is used, and paid off, I do everything that I can do myself...mostly everything, except for cataclysmic transmission and engine problems. Since my past two cars have had warranties, though, that require me to have documented proof of service every time it is done, I now take them in for everything.

I have no clue how to fix cars, so I always have to have it done professionally.

I won't let anyone touch anything I drive unless it's the tow-truck guy. If I don't have the tools, I buy them. If I don't know what to do, I find out. If I add up the cost of every tool I've bought (and I've got one bad-ass collection), every part I've had to buy (including parts needed to replace parts I accidentally screwed up), It doesn't come near to what I'd have paid a mechanic over the years. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate mechanics or anything, in fact I go to a few of them when I need advice. I'd just rather have more show for all that money than a bill.

If I had to get my car proffesionally fixed everytime it breaks, I'd never actually get to drive it!

A) I'm not 17 for a few months, therefore I don't have a car. B) I would send it straight to a professional, I have no idea about cars!

I work on my car myself. I can't do an emissions test, so I have to take it to someone for that.

I can change a flat tire, jump-start a dead battery, wash the car, and inspect some of the belts and hoses, but I have all the rest done professionally. I probably could change the oil myself, but my car is very low to the ground, so in order to get underneath it to undo the drain plug, I'd have to lift each wheel individually with the crappy little scissor jack that came with the car, so I just have the oil done professionally.
