Being well over 6 feet tall, the only thing I look for in a car is legroom, and Volkswagen has it.

VW really isn't bad, I like a lot of their cars - I'm thinking more along luxury lines for the poll though

BMW's are the crappiest cars ever. I used to work for them, doing satisfaction polls for new cars, and after service. You'd be suprised how many people a day told me I'd have to talk to their lawyer due to the fact they were suing BMW over manufacturers faults with the vehicles. One particular case I remember was a guy with an 840, 9 days after he bought it the rearend literally fell out in his driveway while he was backing it out to go to work. Another guy had his car randomly lock up the brakes with nothing touching the brake pedal.

Mercedes are crap. Honestly. Ask anyone who works for them, they crap out all the time, and if you change your own oil, it voids your warranty. We had a brand new one in shop. Brand spanking new, and it needed a total rebuild. I'll go with a Beamer anyday.

I like Porsches better than any German car, but of the 2 choices, I think I've recently converted to BMW.

I don't think I could live with the image of either, and I wouldn't pay the extra an equivalent model to my Renault from either manufacturer would cost. I considered an Audi A2 TDi, but decided I wanted something with more torque.

Mercedi look a little brittle in the grill to me, what with the hood ornament and thin lines, like if you were a giant and picked one up, stuff would get snapped off too easily. The lines on BMWs just seem sleeker and sturdier to me. This has really been a very recent change in preference for me.

I had a Mercedes, and it was crap. Slappy's right, you can't change your own oil if you want to keep the warranty, and somehow they think that $350 for an oil change is reasonable just because they spit-shine the car along with the oil change. Plus we took it in four seperate times to get the same thing fixed, and they never fixed it. Never again.
