I may be more achedemically gifted than someone and described as more intellegent but they could have personality and emotional intelligence that makes up for it. Sometimes opposites attract, an intellectual guy with a stupid but very attractive woman is not uncommon for example. How pleasant someone is would be more of a factor to me than how good they are at maths.
