Poverty is worse.

I'd rather have somone call me a cracker, compared to not having anything to eat. Same goes if I would be black, asian, latin, or anything else. Words are only words. Why should I be affected by what anyone thinks of me. I don't think you'll ever here a starving African person say:

"I would die of hunger if I could stop somone from calling me a n*gg*r."

Poverty is very bad, but they can be fed with the right efforts. The poison of extreme racism doesn't go away, nor does the pure hatred.
17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/24/04 - 10:50:08 AM EST (GMT-5)
I would tend to disagree, since you can't die from racism, and hunger kills many people every day.
17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/24/04 - 10:57:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
Racism. Proverty is not a social injustice. But if you ask which is worse, then I'd say poverty. In America, poverty is a choice 99% of the time, so here I'd say racisim is worse. But if we are talking about people, who through no fault of their own, suffer poverty, then it is far worse than racism.
17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/24/04 - 10:58:33 AM EST (GMT-5)
awwwwwww you can and do die from racism. Just read the history of it.
17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/24/04 - 11:08:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
Pure racism does not kill. It is the act that the individual goes through with that kilss.

I don't like you just because you're canadian, but that doesn't kill you, does it. I would have to come up there and blow your head off, and that my friend is murder, not racism.

17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/24/04 - 11:08:16 AM EST (GMT-5)
Poverty isn't an injustice as such. Racism is.

Besides, racism is fundamentally a combination of ignorance, pride and hatefulness. Which are worse than competition, which produces a few losers, who will be poor.

17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/24/04 - 11:09:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
Im not arguing if either one is an injustice or not. I'm just stating which is worse.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/25/04 - 1:11:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
Generally, people can do something about poverty and often suffer from it of their own volition. However, you can't change your race, your heritage. Therefore, racism.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/25/04 - 1:16:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
Racism is worse.

A black person cannot change that fact that they are black, but mony impoverished people could get out of poverty, if they relied on themselves rather than humanitarian aid from the government.

Definetly poverty because a lot of people in my family are stuck with no money when they want to travel abroad and can't. This is why so many people resort to crime. They want things but they can't afford them. No one can live like that.
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 12/3/04 - 8:22:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
"a lot of people in my family are stuck with no money when they want to travel abroad and can't"

My heart bleeds for them.

17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 12/17/04 - 3:24:49 AM EST (GMT-5)
Some people deserve poverty, there will always be people who think it is their right that others pay for them, but no one deserves racism.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 1/4/05 - 1:55:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
People deserve poverty? What happened to fundamental human rights?
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 1/4/05 - 8:35:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
Both should be unacceptable, so does it really matter which is "worse"?
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 1/4/05 - 8:43:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
I agree with m1r4, some people bring it on in america, alot of poor people are poor because thats how they lead their lives, they CHOOSE to be poor

people can't choose what skin color or race they are, (unless your micheal)

17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/13/05 - 6:39:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
Poverty encourages communities to come together and work at overcoming the problem. Racism breeds hatred and anger, it isolates and institutionalises many people.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 2/25/05 - 8:56:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
I belive Racism is worse. You can find a cure for poverty. At least a short term ones. But Racism can not and when in full swing, will not be taken care of. Just look at our history. the 20's are a good pick. The KKK's recruitment grew so large they had a march in the capital. How is poverty worse then that? Worse then a man being drug out of his home because of his skin color or religion and being lynched?
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Monday 2/28/05 - 5:07:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hold on a second, doesn't poverty perpetuate racism? since racism is usually the result of lack of education and impoverished people tend to have little education?
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/11/05 - 10:16:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
I agree with Markb84. I believe that poverty itself leads to racism and hatred. The rich hate the poor and the poor hate the rich. The rich want the poor to get a job and the poor want the rich to allow them to get one. The rich will rather pay less for a service at the expense of some unknown individual. The poor man would want a rich man lower himself to his state of being in order for him to get ahead. And because people tend to trust those that look and act just like them, their group traits get concentrated.

At least that’s what I believe

I can't stand all this ignorance. Dacash, where do you get your statistics? What you said is simply untrue and hurtful. Both are injustices and are interconnected.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/30/05 - 9:00:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
Its a very good question Kiki..
The cure for poverty is already there, rich industrialised countries stockpile millions of tons of food every year - distribute !
Poverty could be wiped out if every wage earning person donated just 10% of their salary to a system that distributes money to impoverished people - Its called sharing, we have surplus everywhere, processes would need to be set up to ensure corruption doesnt take effect, but essentially, its what we were taught to do when we were little kids, share.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/30/05 - 9:07:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
If one is worse(bad) than the other this suggests one is also better(good) than the other. Consider which you think is good before answering
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 6/3/05 - 12:45:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
Most the people in America who are poor are single mothers with kids because of divorce and the fact that women get significantly less pay then men do.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 6/3/05 - 12:46:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not to mention so many people get away with "choosing" not to pay child support.
