Do you think it`s hypocritical for John Kerry to take John Edwards as his running mate when just six months ago Edwards was his opponent?

Yeah, yeah. This was being discussed on the radio this morning. It's only going to be seen as a serious issue by people that already oppose Kerry's election.

It works because it's incredibly typical. Plenty of politicians reverse their positions as a matter of convenience. Personally, I don't really care in this particular situation. Give me someone who lies and changes his tune to cover up for an abuse of power, and that would be a big deal.

I don't recall Kerry ever publically saying anything questioning Edwards' character, abilities as a politican in general etc etc. I don't see why it should matter. He just thought he could be a better president than Edwards six months ago, I doubt that opinion has changed.

Not hypocritical at all. It happened with Reagan/Bush and with Kennedy/Johnson...and I'm sure it happened a few other times in the last 200 years.

Sometimes you pick the best man for the job, sometimes you pick the person who will add the most votes to your ticket.

sure. but as everyone knows, ALL politicians are hypocrites.

Kerry had to pick the best person for the ticket--it has been said that a Dem from the North can never win without a Southern VP...

It has also been said that usually (historically) the VP selection doesn't really influence voters all that much.

No it's not. It's just the way it goes. Business is business. Or in this case, politics is politics.

It is typical in politics to do this. The question is what does the ticket gain?
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/9/04 - 11:38:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah it's fairly common. Hell the VP used to be the head of the losing party...of course that was a bitter experience for many.

Of course not. Edwards is a great man. It's Cheney who's a disgrace.

No. Just because they were running agaisnt each other doesn't mean Kerry can't adopt him as a running mate.

No, it happens all the time

There are no hypocrites in politics, just politicians.
