Do you think that teenagers that take abstinence vows are probably the ones that weren`t going to have sex in the first place?

Yep. It's a lot easier, when you're a young teenager, to say you'll never have sex. But, as you grow older, the pressure... builds... mgngmgff...

But some really don't want to have sex, i guess; and, lacking in that desire, do not make it happen. So it wouldn't make a difference if the vowed not to have sex.

No, some are just really religious.

Well... DUH.

um. yeah. what mambotomaro said.
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 11/28/04 - 6:07:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
augh! I meant MamboTomato
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 11/28/04 - 6:51:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
absolutely, especially with guys I think those abstinence vows would go up in smoke if they actually found someone that was willing to have sex with them
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 12/6/04 - 9:22:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
They are stupid. It helps so much more to experiment before you're married. Otherwise you don't know what you're missing.

yea, that 1's commoen sence, mambotomato got it right.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 12/28/04 - 3:52:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
What I was getting at is, even without the vow they probably will remain abstinent. Any teenager that didn't already feel certain about their ability to do so wouldn't take the vow. Therefore it strikes me as a form of gloating rather than of any meaningful oath.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 12/28/04 - 4:13:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't imagine there are lots of them for whom it has been a huge effort. I imagine they had already decided, for whatever reason, to remain abstinent before they took this vow and made it all official.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 12/28/04 - 4:16:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Everybody I know that has said that couldn't get laid even if they tried, which is exactly why they make that ridiculous "oath."
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 1/10/05 - 1:17:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
lol!!!
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 1/10/05 - 1:21:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
Obviously. If you take a vow, it's not normally on a whim.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 1/21/05 - 11:40:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, they're all very uptight.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 1/21/05 - 11:53:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
well...see i don't think most of them actually stick to the abstinence vows. so i'd say no in general, but yes, those who take abstinence vows and follow them are mostly the ones who wouldn't have had sex anyway.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 2/5/05 - 1:24:59 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, they're all very uptight.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 2/5/05 - 11:52:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
nogeek: What do you mean "what they're missing"? When they're married, they'll know.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 2/5/05 - 12:19:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
If uptight means not having a kid at 16, then consider me uptight, hallowedcry.

And yeah...if they weren't going to have sex, it would be easier to sign a vow stating that.

16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 2/5/05 - 12:35:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
"Obviously. If you take a vow, it's not normally on a whim."

When you're 15, everything you do is on a whim. Or so I remember it, but that was a long time ago, of course, sometime between the extinction of the dinosaurs and the Watergate scandal.

I pity these kids, though. And I pity the Nation that willingly destroys its own youth by making such "wows of abstinence" socially acceptable.
It's like the "Anti-sex movement" in George Orwell's "1984"...

16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/8/05 - 4:37:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think it's quite easy to presurize teens into making whatever vows. Just threaten them with grounding or taking their pocket money when they resist, will work.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/15/05 - 10:06:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
no. I'll be blunt and say, I could have sex if I wanted to. But I won't until marriage because I am a Christian.
sander- I don't understand why you pity us. I don't believe "a nation destroys its own youth by making it socially acceptable". In fact, I think its the other way around. But I am a christian so what would I know
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/16/05 - 11:38:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
no, they're just the dumb kids who're going to end up in the STD clinic or the maternity ward.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/16/05 - 11:51:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
I really see no point in these "abstinence vows." Honestly, the only people around here that actually committ themselves to those are cheerleaders. Why? Because its hard to fit in a dinky little cheerleading outfit while you're pregant. Basically, I see sex as something that is going to happen eventually. So why not get some experience in before you're married?
16 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 2/28/05 - 1:27:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
probably. there'd be exceptions obviously.
16 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Sunday 3/6/05 - 5:35:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
And the most likely to grow up as nuns.. regardless of their gender.
