Yes, I used to hear people talk about it more often, but not so much nowadays.

I loved it when I was a kid, but I couldn't care less now. The Royals suck ass, and it's all players you've never even heard of now, most of whom aren't even Americans. Now it's just all about which team can buy the best players, and about how much the players make.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 6/20/04 - 1:31:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
Kiki, that's only when it comes to the Yankee's. I mean, yea, you have players bitching about not getting enough money and you have this player traded to that team, but what you described isn't nearly as common as people would like to believe.

And Baseball may be getting less popular, but I dont think it's really dying. There are still millions of fans that will always go watch baseball games. And while the fan base may not be what it was years ago, I think baseball is still doing pretty good.

18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 6/20/04 - 4:02:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think they got rid of a lot of their fan base when they went on strike
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 6/20/04 - 10:59:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
BUt that was like 5 or 6 years ago (it was like '98 or something, wasn't it?) and it's slowly coming back up there. Especially after the Sosa/McGuire homerun race. That was a huge hit with fans that were dissapointed with the strike.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 6/23/04 - 1:31:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, it's certainly not dying over here...
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 6/23/04 - 1:32:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think it is. I would say football and basketball are becomingmore popular.
18 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 7/16/04 - 3:01:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
One can only hope!
18 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 7/16/04 - 5:51:14 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, never will be. There's a demand for baseball everywhere.

shaun-"Kiki, that's only when it comes to the Yankee's" So Boston and Baltimore do not spend money? It's possible to have a thriving payroll and still be 10 games behind for a whole season. Once the money is spent, it's up to head coaches and trainers to see that the money is spent well on each athlete. NY Yankees coaching is the definition of "money well spent" Don't forget, the coaching costs money too.

With everything about steroids, baseball has taken a hit. However, fans come back if there is something to cheer for. The penent races are close, and whenever someone chases a record it is good.

the yankees are still popular arnt they? I want to see one of there games when I go to New York next month.. hey is it baseball season next month?
18 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 7/16/04 - 9:50:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes Luiz they are still popular. Always will be THE most popular sports franchise ever. The regular season doesn't end till September. The Yankees however, will go right through October to win it all.

Attendance is at an all time high, even with Montreal and toronto not drawing diddly. The strike in '93 really dampened the baseball spirit in Toronto. Can't wait to see what the hockey work stoppage does to small market teams in the US.
18 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 7/20/04 - 6:36:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's not our #1 sport that's for sure football has taken that spot.
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 8/26/04 - 3:54:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
^^Quite true

Now people in baseball take steroids and make you pay money to get their stupid autograph.

18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 8/26/04 - 5:00:29 PM EST (GMT-5)

NObody is charging for autographs at the ballparks. That is only at card shows, and then most of the money goes to the show promoter.

18 yrs ago - Monday 9/6/04 - 10:36:36 AM EST (GMT-5)
baseball is boring. and it doesn't seem as popular as it was in the past.
18 yrs ago - Monday 9/6/04 - 10:39:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldnt say it is dying. The yankees are still very popular. I would say tennis is dying faster than baseball.
18 yrs ago - Sunday 9/12/04 - 5:11:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
Its better than football
18 yrs ago - Sunday 9/12/04 - 5:49:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
i think that more and more people are wantin to play basketball and football and stuff now but i dont think that baseball is in anyway dying. last i checked, not anytime here recently......havent taken the time to :-, but last time i checked baseball players were the highest paid athletes (as a whole) so i would hope we're not spending all our money on something that is "dying."
18 yrs ago - Monday 9/20/04 - 11:00:25 AM EST (GMT-5)
When I watch my team play, the stands are always full. and that is true with a lot of teams, so no, its not dying.
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/9/05 - 5:07:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
No way!!! i love baseball!
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 3/3/05 - 3:09:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's coming back. The strike hit hard, but it's coming back. I love baseball. ^_^ Go Cubbies!
