our school allowed us but they never posted anything about it. the only way we knew was through our local churches
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:50:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm pretty sure my school had that. I never went but I'm pretty sure my school had it.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:51:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
and I disagree with the "its pretty cool" idea. If you want to pray, why not just go to church, eh? Go to school to learn, not pray.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:52:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
because praying and being a Christian is not a building. we want to share our faith and witness
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:56:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
So?
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:57:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
so thats why people do it
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:58:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
I didn't say I didn't understand, did I?
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 7:59:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
I love it - this is just another example hottsmugirl of how hypocritical people are by condemning Christians for being bold about their faith, but at the same time preaching tolerance for all. "Tolerance" in our society does not tolerate Christianity outside churches.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:05:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm not being hypocritical. Where did I say I was about tolerance? I didn't.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:06:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
Wow, i have never heard of that.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:07:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
If anyone here is hypocritical it's the Christians who aren't tolerant of my opinions. I don't subscribe my life to any book that tells me to be tolerant and accepting; you do. So why don't you start right now with not telling me I'm hypocritical for not caring at all about your silly meet at the flagpole.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:08:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, that's good, I appreciate your honest opinion. But, don't you think as a whole, at least for the public school system, Christians are not looked upon with the same level of tolerance as those of other beliefs are?
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:10:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
How do you define tolerance though ? You're not hypocritical for not caring about it, its just when Christian activities are not given the same amount of freedom as other religious activities are.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:11:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
Christians are looked upon the same as other beliefs in a public school system because a public school system is secular themed. All beliefs are represented without one of them getting special treatment or attention. Do you think Christianity doesn't get represneted well enough?
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:11:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I honestly don't. Christians get Christian holidays off without problem and without fail, no? Ever had a problem getting Easter vacation off? How about Christmas?

Our entire lives are fundamentally centered about Christian beliefs. Look at the Pledge, money, etc etc.

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:17:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
Personally, I think Christians get hassled for doing certain things. Example, bringing a Bible to school and reading it. Kids have gotten in trouble for that or saying they disagree with Evolution, which is only a theory.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:18:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
I never participated. I think they did that like real early. Before most of the students even get to school.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:19:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
Note - I'm not condeming anyone here for disagreeing with me or anything, lol, please don't think that or anything. I don't want to come off like that, ok?
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:21:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
I gotcha. I don't feel condemned if that's at all helpful.

The thing about evolution is just silly. No one disputes it's validity (no one in the science community anyhow). I'm sure kyry, a lovely smart man, could give you much more convincing evidence than I can (especially since mine is: wtf? don't be dumb ).

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:22:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
I went to a Catholic school so we didn;t have to do that flagpole thing
We already had nuns in our classrooms
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 8:25:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
Ok, good, I'm glad to know you don't think I am :). Well, the thing is, I do believe in evolution, microevolution. However, Macroevolution is only a theory, just like Creationism is.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/24/04 - 9:06:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, I would have to correct you there. Evolution is a scientific theory based on research and observation over time. Creationism is rooted in faith. Evolution is science. Creationism has nothing to do with science.

Two very different things going on there.

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/25/04 - 7:34:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
Well, doesn't accepting Evolution as fact require faith also? Where exactly did the matter necessary for Evolution to begin come from? And yes, Creationism has its roots in faith, but not all scientists accept Evolutionary theory as fact. Evidence does exist which supports a "Young Earth" theory.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/25/04 - 7:40:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
I never heard of 'Meet me at the pole' day.

For having nothing to do with science, the creation story seems to follow the evolutionary path fairly closely...

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/25/04 - 7:46:21 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. They dont have those kinds of activities at public schools here.
