CONYERS, Ga. - A man who has been struggling with a drug problem has been ordered by a judge to buy a coffin and keep it in his home. Chief Superior Court Judge Sidney Nation sentenced Brenton Jay Raffensperger, 24, to serve only the first six months of a seven-year sentence on a cocaine possession charge. But he must keep the coffin in his home during the duration of the sentence.

'Some people may think this is silly, but I don't,' Nation told Raffensperger. 'I want you to go to a funeral home and buy a casket, put it in your home and see it every day as a reminder of the deadly consequences of your choices. I want you to be reminded every day that if you don't change your ways you are a dead man...'

Do you think drug addicts should be forced to keep a coffin in their home as a reminder of their deadly actions?

You know what I like the idea cause you have to be constantly reminded of your condition and that's like a harsh reminder, weird things could happen though, like maybe in a really delusional state (thought of two things but decided not to mention (!))...I don't know...or maybe the dude is just ignoring it in his living room.

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/20/04 - 8:53:18 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, that's ridiculous. If you're going to get effed up, you're going to do it whether or not there was a friggin coffin in your house.

I'm with megvicious. I personally would see it as kind of neat to have a coffin in my house. Dunno why.

I wouldn't care if they GAVE you the coffin. Heck, that'd be pretty cool to have around. But the fact that you have to BUY one - nah, that's not cool. No one should tell you how to spend your money.
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 6/29/04 - 1:36:14 AM EST (GMT-5)
well hate to break it to ya but "they" already do
its the same thing like paying a fine
at least this dude has his coffin so he doesnt have to pay for that anymore
and he can sell it later on if he wanted to
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 6/29/04 - 3:02:21 AM EST (GMT-5)

17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 9/18/04 - 6:12:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
^LoL
This question is so morbid, I love it. I think it's a good idea. And hey, they're selling cheap coffins at Cosco's now, so you can pick one up for just a couple hundred. If it helps you stop doing drugs, then I would think you're really saving money.
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 9/20/04 - 12:06:14 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, this is dumb. A drug addict isn't going to be thinking rationally when they need their next fix. If they do die ,I guess they'll at least have their coffin picked out.
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 9/20/04 - 12:15:14 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think drug addicts already know of the consequences of their actions. This is pointless.
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 10/12/04 - 2:55:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
really.. what is the f-ing point? it seems to me this Sidney character is only doing this to "take his slavemaster attitude" for a nice little stroll. what an incentive to become a judge! i tell ya, some people like to push their personal disapproval to new levels, and people like this actually get off on it. this is not a proper court order, it's extreme personal bunk.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 7:55:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
Anyone think he's not going to place the coffin in the middle of his living room? He'll probably stuff it in a closet or something.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 7:55:47 AM EST (GMT-5)
LOL, that's good.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 8:08:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think this is a mildly stupid idea, nothing outrageous, but this is simply the kind of thing that might work with a very limited number of people, and assuming that this is a good fix is just dumb. most people would just cover it up and use it as a table, or use it to bury someone or something.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 8:08:16 AM EST (GMT-5)
And at the end of the sentence he can sell it to buy more drugs!
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 8:11:02 AM EST (GMT-5)
^^Exactly. There really isn't a point to it.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 8:14:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
but it will be law soon
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/11/04 - 8:17:57 AM EST (GMT-5)
drug dealers should not be made because it's a chicken hazard and wouldnt he (or she) not care, he's probably high on heroin, crack, LSD and weed
