Lots of cinema for adult viewing. Seriously, my friend went to Montreal and the streets looked like:

sex shop|grocery store|strip club|drug store|deli|sex shop|cathedral|strip club|etc.

I don't see how non-Canadians can answer this question. Sump_Pump, there's just as much to do in a Canadian city than an American city. I don't see your point... go cross country up here, and check out everything you can. Then let me know how boring it is.

yes.
(I'm half canadian btw)
what is backbacon?
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Saturday 8/14/04 - 12:59:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's similar to front bacon but it's on the side.

Canada's national identity seems pretty defined in negative terms, as what they are not, predominantly not USA. And positively using all the trappings of national identity, perceived sense of having something in common.

Of course we have a national identity! Which country doesn't? Other's just sterotype it.
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 11/2/04 - 11:40:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
WOW! I'm abolutely apalled by some of the rude responses to this question!! I live in a "Border City" and defend the U.S./Americans QUITE often to the ignorant Canadians (and I don't mean rude, I mean uninformed) who bash them i.e. extremely high crime etc. etc. Where I am from, we think nothing of going to the U.S. to just go out for dinner, shopping, a concert etc. As a matter of fact, I am going shopping this weekend. Maybe I should just stay here and spend my money on beer, back bacon, catch a hockey game and maybe look to move out of my igloo into a real house...if I can find one in Canada!
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 11/10/04 - 8:04:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
geez, this is really disappointing. yes, all countries have stereotypes. but i know that america is more than apple pie, hollywood and the right to bear arms and the right to arm bears :^/ and i know a lot of people who would resent the comment that we're all just like americans; not that americans are bad, but just because we're aren't them.
17 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 12/26/04 - 2:33:24 AM EST (GMT-5)
yea as pussys
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 2/19/05 - 8:13:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
I actually live in a part of Canada that doesn't get snow!
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 2/19/05 - 8:19:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
There is no national identity, the closest thing we even have to a motto is "See those guys down there (US) we aren't them!"
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Wednesday 3/9/05 - 2:22:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
I AM CANADIAN

I think Homer Simpson said it best: "What?! Why would we leave America to go to America Jr.?!"

"I actually live in a part of Canada that doesn't get snow!"

Ha, me too. Well we get a little, not much though!

17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Friday 3/18/05 - 9:45:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
"We don't like Americans"

Simple and to the point

17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Friday 3/18/05 - 10:26:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yep, our identity consists of proving that we are not American lol.
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 4/9/05 - 7:52:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
I lived in Canada most of my life and Canada's national identity to me is well, it's hard to explain, but the people are smarter and more polite, the place is cleaner, everything is more simple and just all around better, except for the weather, it's kinda cold... Really if u wanna see the country's true heart you just have to watch Royal canadian air farce and 22 minutes, then u'll see what we really care about! (I lived in Calgary in case u were wondering) oh and we aren't really proud of celine dion just in case u thought we were.
