Absolutely not. They really went overboard in punishing this guy. I don't think anything should have happened to him. They have no sense of humor. NFL = No Fun League

I heard he didn't really make a phone call, it was just part of his touchdown celebration dance. People need to lighten up.

They fined him $30,000 for this. I think that's a bit over the top. Sure it's a rule, but $30,000 for just that? I can't imagine what will happen now that they've set the bar that high.
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 12/19/03 - 11:55:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's so stupid. Let the players celebrate a little. Besides, isn't it only illegal to celebrate if you do it in a taunting manner in the vicinity of an opposing team member? Borgo is right, it's the No Fun League

I think the real question should be, would the fine have been lower if he'd pulled off a stunt that was actually funny
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 12/19/03 - 12:09:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
yes. i was talking to my friend about this, actually. he can't bear to watch NFL football and relegates himself to college football. he can't stand the sheer absurdity and immaturity displayed by players on the field. it's less about the game and more about seeking attention. sports in america have always been fairly ludicrous and more focused on the entertainment aspect of it rather than the athletic aspect of it, but that cell phone call was even out of line for what is typically circus-like event.
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 12/19/03 - 12:17:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
I can't believe the NFL is fining this guy for this poo. This is hardly offensive or unsportsmanlike.
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 12/19/03 - 4:27:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
I guess next they'll be fining players for having to pee before half time...

"he can't stand the sheer absurdity and immaturity displayed by players on the field. it's less about the game and more about seeking attention"
Well, hell. That IS the NFL ya know.

Ziggy... you mean they're not already? Sh*t. We need to get Tagliabou on this one ASAP!

Hell no, if anything they should suspend the entire NYG team from the league for losing like such bitches.

How in the world is that unsportsmanlike?
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/6/04 - 9:26:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't get it. What was bad about what he did? What exactly did he do?
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/6/04 - 9:43:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's against the rules to do celebratory dances after touchdowns
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 4/6/04 - 10:01:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
if they don't nip it in the bud the next team will try something bigger and better until one day some people will get really angry and a riot will break out.

it was a tad unsportsmanlike, maybe t doesn't seem like a big deal until the teams spend a few games trying to outdo each other.

18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 4/14/04 - 6:10:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
what's the big deal? I think it's a funny sign of the times.

"if they don't nip it in the bud the next team will try something bigger and better until one day some people will get really angry and a riot will break out."

what? like all call the other team and taunt them?

I want to know what kind of phone he had! If it survived the game in his pocket, I probably won't be able to break it either.

18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 4/14/04 - 7:39:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
No way, they should all carry cell phones while they are playing football, never know when you want a little advice from a friend or tell a loved one that you have just scored the most important touchdown of your life.
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 4/14/04 - 7:55:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't see how that phone call would affect the play of the game.
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/19/04 - 6:29:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
The Saints won a game?!?!?!?!?

Hard to beleive as I find that, no he shouldn't be punished. They already got a 15 yard penlty.

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 6/3/04 - 9:51:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
