'People don't like to go around with these ugly packs, they're a little bit ashamed,' said Christophe Blanc, a Dolmen official behind the idea. The casings cost around 60 eurocents (70 U.S. cents) and are decorated with checkerboard and flower patterns or portraits of Cuban revolutionary hero Ernesto 'Che' Guevara...

Sure. I don't know any smoker who would give up smoking because of what is said on the box anyway.

Why not, they're only hurting themselves. Besides they obviously know about the risks if they're trying to cover them up.

Hey, tax them at the same rate as cigarettes! You smokers can pay for my health care. I don't mind at all.

Oh please. Get a job.

I don't see why not. Smokers know the dangers of smoking.

If they've already bought the cigarettes, what difference does it make?
18 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 12/3/03 - 11:47:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
If you think that a smoker looks at the package when they remove one you are deluding yourself. I quit because I wanted to not because of some picture.

They already have those sorts of things here. My mom, my dad, and my g-ma all have cases which house their packs of cigarettes and their lighters. This is nothing new.

They shouldn't be illegal, that's kind of a stretch. Also, it's rather ridiculous that a person becomes ashamed of smoking once it is written on the box, it's not like they're waving around the box showing it to everyone. And if they do, they're a little off.

18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Sunday 2/8/04 - 8:10:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
Why not? People know what smoking does to your body. They're dumb if they don't.
18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Sunday 2/8/04 - 8:26:20 AM EST (GMT-5)
Being able to cover up warnings is to exercise one's freedom.

i have to agree with denis leary "you could have cigarettes named tumours in a black pack with skull and crossbones on it and smokers would be lined up around the block to get their hands on them"

I think it is sad that people are embarrassed to carry around something that says that and yet they don't care that they are still using the products...I dispise cigarette companies

The aussies are just doing this now?? We've had those 'graphic' pictures on our packs of cigarettes for years.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 6/25/04 - 8:00:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
i think if a person is stupid enough to be smoking in this day and age, they should definatly have to look at those death warnings on the box. that way when they are all in the hospital with cancer, they will not be able to deny that they brought it upon themselves.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 6/25/04 - 8:19:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
Oh, for God's sake, who cares? It's not like cigarette cases were just invented. They existed long before health warning were placed on the packs.
