If it did change and it was full of contradictions, then yes I'm sure somebody would've caught it and changed it.

I'd say that it's for tradition's sake.

Its written by different people. With different view points and different interpretations of what God is telling them. Why *would* they edit that?

I don't think anyone cared that much until recently. They had a 'believe this, or else' thing going on.

I think its naive to believe that no one cared enough to question the Bible before.

Which part of the Bible? The NT or the OT? The NT I believe was written at the same time by different people, so it never was edited. The OT was written over many periods of time, but by people of vastly different religious and political background, so if they took something out they ricked offending half the country (of Israel).

Back then they were to corrupt to care. They were probably trying to edit the things that would make them look bad and ended up putting in the ones that condridicted the other ones. By the time they relized this everyone knew the bible and they couldn't confess that they had changed it to suit their needs and ended up just going with it.

So, I guess all you have to do to put an obviously biased question on here is to put a disclaimer at the bottom?

I don't get how they were corrupt. They were writing down the myths that had been passed through the generations, and some were slightly out of sinc with others.

It's a condition, don. You can answer the question and still consider the antecedant to be false.

People must have questioned it, but they couldn't do anything about it or they would have been killed.

Exactly... plus nowadays since it's been so long no one knows what the originals were.

People just accept the belief that there are contradictions in the Bible without looking into it. Every so called contradiction can be explained, because there are none! If there were, the Bible would have been written off as nothing more than a good book a long time ago. As it stands, there are thousands of Bible colleges, millions of churches, and billions of believers in what the Bible has to say... So, what contradictions?

I agree with guardcore, though I recognize that I have difficulty reconciling certain things within the Bible. Any so-called contradictions that have stumped me have been about very minor things.

There are a lot of what seem to be contradictions for which I'm yet to hear any kind of explanation... I'm fascinated by the whole business though, so I'd love to hear from anybody with theories about, say, Ephesians 2:8,9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith . . . not of works." and James 2:24 "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." I admit it's perfectly possible I'm misquoting or not fully understanding something here, but does that not seem like inconsistency to you, at least at first glance?

That's a good one, Nozzer42. Not even all Christians agree on that one. If you look at the extended context of each quote, Ephesians 2, and James 2, *my* understanding of it is that true faith comes first, which in turn produces good deeds as a manifestation of that true faith (not deeds or faith *alone*), and because we can't do so perfectly, God's grace is the ultimate determinant.

Valgal, just restating an opinion doesn't actually constitute an argument. If you can justify your position in some way, then it might actually help the discussion along. UncleLaughie, I admit I didn't really read the context when I mentioned those passages; I'm still not entirely sure how well it fits, but they're open to interesting interpretation.

the bible is full of contradictions between the books of it, and the different versions UncleLaughie, contradicitons, even about minor things, that are present in a book many bel;eive to be divinely inspired or revealled, seem to be a problem, if its got the little things mixed up, how can we beleive it for the big things? or does God not beleive in attention to detail?
