Marcia Wall's lawsuit in federal court says she and other inmates at the Washington State Prison in Davisboro have been bitten repeatedly by spiders and that medical officials have denied them proper treatment.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Scheree Lipscomb would not comment on the lawsuit, but said the 1,000-bed prison is fumigated once a month by a pest control company. Wall's lawyer, McNeill Stokes, said inmates have sent him envelopes filled with dead spiders as proof of the infestation...

Yes, she should win. Prison time does not mean that you are not to be afforded any rights. In her sentencing, did it say anything about her having to be bitten by spiders as part of her punishment?

If what she says is true, then yes. At the least they should get medical treatment if they have a reaction to the spider bites. I think being repeatedly bitten by spiders falls under cruel and certainly unusual punishment.

Yeah I do too JazzBaby - I'm all for prisons only having the bare essentials, but they still have the right to have a safe living environment. In some other countries, maybe not, but in America they lose their rights except for the right to be fed, housed in appropriate conditions, etc., while in jail. For someone terrified of spiders, this definitely could be considered cruel and unusual punishment. IF she is telling the truth. She may be exaggerating just to get her story heard
