Buffy the Vampire Slayer, hands down. Though X-files comes in at a nice second. I also really like Bewitched, which I still say is a form of sci-fi in sitcom form.

Anything created or written by by Gene Roddenberry. Latest favorite is Earth Final Conflict and I'll always love Star Trek.

Wise:Buffy is fantasy, not sci fi, there isnt' anything scientifically futuristic at all, foo.

I'll say Stargate, SG1

Trips: Buffy is, in fact, science fiction, literally. There are several defintions of the word science that I could use to justify my choice, including:

--a system of knowledge concerned with the physical world and its phenomena

--something (as a sport or technique) that may be studied or learned like systematized knowledge

the state of knowing : knowledge as distinguished from ignorance or misunderstanding

I think you may have taken the word science in its most common form, cheapening it. The day sci-fi simply becomes fiction in a lab setting is a sad day. Note that Star Trek is considered sci-fi, yet the entire premise of the show is based on distintly unscientific principles, and is actually a collection of fantasy adventures based on entirely fabricated concepts.

What's more, hardcore Buffy fans would know that Buffy is subject to physical laws that govern her powers, as is Willow, and that the intricacies of these rules are a large part of the show (e.g., Willow's escalation of magic, which is rigorously ordered through inviolable principles). A nice way of thinking about the sci-fi element of the show is to take another look at season four, which is sci-fi by any account. Notice the military, with their lab coats and futuristic weapons, are a parallel to Buffy and co., with their similar objectives. By the show's end, we see that Buffy, Willow, and even Anya are subject to the same laws of cause and effect through their powers as any scientific experiment. That's the essence of science--systematized knowledge of a phenomenon. I would argue that Buffy is quintessentially sci-fi, more so than even Star Trek TNG, with its kitschy collage of faux-futuristic props set inside a melodrama.

Wisen, magic is not sci fi, it's fantasy, get off your soapboax.
Science fiction implies it has to do with science, and is in some way showing a false or not yet achieved scientific idea.

Buffy is pure magic, there is no sci fi, the ONLY thing that is even REMOTELY sci fi is those geeks with that invisible gun they invented.

star trek is sci fi because it deals with scientific laws and principlies
WARP DRIVE
REPLECATOR
PHASE GUN

Also, that milatary had no futurisitic weapon, a hardcore fan, or hell, even someone who has SEEN the show would know they were just carrying machine guns and stun guns

"It's ok, obviously I have proven you totally wrong and made a fool out of you, it's ok if you have no response."

My response was a paraphrase of a famous Buffy line, which I just assumed you would get. Oh well.

"so lost...even I can't help you now"

18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 9/15/03 - 7:57:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
