Okay, pardon the following stereotypes, but any discussion of men and women in terms as broad as these will have to use them.

I think men have a greater capacity for cruelty in terms of having no compassion whatsoever, a kind of clinical cruelty, so to speak. All of the foremost serial killers, Dahmer, Bundy, Manson, have no female equivalent. Men can commit cruelty with no apparent reward--not glory, or revenge. The male brain seems less absorbed by emotion, and as a result is capable of extreme brutality in a way that has no female parallel.

This is not to rule the ladies out, though. It's just that when women are seen as cruel, it's almost always in relation to their gender (Medea, spurned by love, or real life Susan Smith, who drowned her children in rejection of her duties of motherhood). Girls who gossip and ruin lives do so in a way that just doesn't translate in male terms. It's as if female cruelty is exclusively a reaction to a past transgression, a function or defect of motherhood, or else a power grab. That's certainly how I've viewed it in historical and literary accounts. I don't believe that women are inherently benevolent, that's for sure, but rather that their cruelty seems more explicable to me, and follows a function I can readily see.

I don't know. I have met some pretty cruel women, and unfortunately, I have dated a few of them.

hah.

Prone?

Men are more prone to physical violence.

Women sometimes prefer to be emotionally cruel.

Women, when they make up their minds, they just don't give a F*ck who they hurt.

I think, and a lot of teachers and parents I know agree, that females are very very hard on other females. Guys may be dicks to each others, but we just fight once or twice, exchange words, whatever, but we confront each other about things. Girls dont, and they hold grudges and they get jealous and they can be really really nasty.

I think both genders are prone to emotional and physical cruelty, they just have different ways of showing it. It also depends on the person a lot as well. Sabastian is right though...girls can be extremely catty and mean when they want to be. :(

i know i can be a bitch. i agree with the thinkin that men are cruel in other ways. i'd say women are slightly more calculating with their cruelty.

Cruelty is not gender specific.

"Guys may be dicks to each others, but we just fight once or twice, exchange words, whatever"
Oh yeah, and kill each other, how many girls would go the lenghts of shoting up a school for example, and how many of those incedents do you suppose are provoked by the cruelty of girls in relation to guys?

I think Wise said it for the most part, men tend to do everything on a grander scale than women.

Funny that most people say that women are more cruel. I see a lot more cruelties done by men than by women, for some reason... Often they are on a "grander scale" too...
