No, only until we get all the oil contracts signed.

yes the sooner stability is restored the better.
19 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 8/26/03 - 9:41:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
The point IS to occupy it until (if ever) stabiltiy is restored.

Will it take longer to install democracy in Afgahnistan and Iraq than it did in Nazi Germany and Japan?

19 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 8/26/03 - 9:42:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
United Nations troops should be in Iraq until there is a stable government.

Iraq doesn't trust the US - with good reason - so the US will not get buy-in from the Iraqi people.

19 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 8/26/03 - 9:45:18 AM EST (GMT-5)
I take it you don't read much wanderer. The Iraqi people don't trust the UN who was Saddam's backer. We have trouble with a few insurgents but they are being delt with.

^ spot on..its the UNs job..The US can help out but it should not be totally left to the US
19 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 8/26/03 - 9:48:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
you really have an incorrect view of the dictators debating society
19 yrs ago - Monday 9/15/03 - 7:17:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Since we've already come this far, I don't think it makes sense to give up half way. We shouldn't start a job and leave it unfinished.

When I think of the UN, I think of the phrase "Talk is cheap". The UN is all talk, no action. We cannot rely on the UN to make our decisions for us.
18 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 9/29/03 - 11:06:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
I didn't think the UN supported the US being in Iraq at all. Maybe I'm misinformed.
18 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/20/03 - 8:59:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
The Iraqi's want the US out. You guys are doing a terrible job. After the gulf war, it took three months for everything and everyone to function normally again. This time the US is taking God-knows how long, and your progress is so unbelievably slow. It's painful to watch! But of course you people are only getting the good news through Mr. Brennan.
18 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/20/03 - 9:03:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't understand why everyone thinks we only get the good news...The bad is just as accessible, it probably won't be the lead story on the 6 o'clock news though.
18 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/20/03 - 9:19:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
The Gulf war was a lot less involved than the current war. I would expect that 3 months would be a very unrealistic expectation. Actually, things are probably already functioning normally (by Iraqi standards) again. The US wants to make sure than things are better than they were.
18 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/20/03 - 9:54:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's gotta be getting better--they now have a Burger King!!
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 11/4/03 - 9:12:36 AM EST (GMT-5)
NO OUR troops need to be brought out safely especially after those who were recently coming home died in a helicopter crash.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 11/19/03 - 7:05:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
They should be speeding up the process of getting a stable government going
18 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 12/1/03 - 3:07:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
NO!!! it is my firm belief that until the united states leaves iraq, there will be an unstable government.
18 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 12/2/03 - 9:56:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
The link wars have begun!
18 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 12/2/03 - 10:47:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
if we do, we'll be there forever.
18 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 12/20/03 - 1:16:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
no because i mean Iraq isnt the us's problem..they should fix it themselves...
18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 1/6/04 - 10:28:43 AM EST (GMT-5)
The U.S. should get out, then drop a bomb on the bastards and concentrate on Bin Laden/Al Queda.

Will the Democrats intiate a withdrwal policy as an election isssue?

Will they then be the establishment's red herring?

18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/23/04 - 1:30:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
What do you think, will the troops leave before or after the inevitable civil war?

If they get a democracy, they'll vote in a radical Islamic governnment, and America will have a nation just as opposed to it as ever.

18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/23/04 - 1:37:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
Regardless, I nominate Kiki Queen of the Links.

It sucks, but I think the US has a responsibility to stick it out until the Iraqi infrastructure is back on its feet and running. I'd like to think that that infrastructure wouldn't be owned by US companies with important contracts or influenced by US policies but. . . . that's wishful thinking.

Why would the UN send troops? We went in unilaterally, by passing the Security Council and derailing a weapons inspection process that was working. Why should the UN pay for our mistakes?
