Umm I guess the genetic one since then I can't spread it to others around me.

I know someone who has lupus.

if it were genetic, at least you could not pass it on to anyone, other than maybe your offspring. AIDS is really like carrying a board with a nail in it around all the time.

What a horrid question, why would someone ask such a thing, Neither!!

Lupus is sometimes a lot harder to control than AIDS. With AIDS you can get treatment, and while it won't completely go away, people are living years and years with it. Lupus though, sometimes can't be controlled. My colorguard teacher from high school discovered she had it quite suddenly and isn't expected to very long. She's having to start dialysis now.

But I agree, I pick neither.

I think this question is sick and wrong. I lost my best friend/older brother to AIDS on September 30, 2000. I held his hand as he took his dying breath and I would not wish that suffering on anyone. Two years prior to that in May of 1998, I lost my Uncle to his 13 year battle with AIDS. You don't know just how grim and gut wrenching either an AIDS or a Lupus predicament would be until you go there personally or watch your loved ones suffer. There are a lot of impediments that go along with dying a sometimes slow and painful death, which is stigmatized by the world, where you can't find comfort or relief and you never know which day your number will be up. I could write a novel on this, but think really hard before you answer a question of this nature and remember all of the baggage and suffering involved-for everyone...November 5 this year would have been my brother's 36th birthday...I miss you Shawn...

Um, I think I'll pass on both.

no thank you

Lupus, no spreading, and no social stigma. This is a horrible question, by the way.

ide rather have neither
18 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 12/13/03 - 1:37:04 AM EST (GMT-5)
I've known people with both Lupus and AIDS... my cousin died of AIDS. But I wouldn't say this question is sick and wrong.

Why are u saying its wrong??? Eventually youll think about it and then you wont say its wrong... its life and there really isnt anything bad about it.

Why have more people picked the contageous one? You evil people!
18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 1/20/04 - 1:53:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
Lupus, then I can't give it to a hubby
18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 1/20/04 - 8:28:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was diagnosed this year (at 34) with Lupus. Let me just tell you...it sucks! Lupus is an auto-immune disorder where you body attacks itself. I was a totally healthy and competite gymnast for many years and health plays no role here. Either way...I wish neither of them on anyone. It's like asking someone if they want to 'live or die'. Sounds like a no brainer to me.

I'm sorry to hear that, TheWanderer. I answer the question with no frivolity:
Socially, I'd rather have Lupes. It's less stigmatized. For quality of life, I'd rather have AIDS. It's less restricting.
