I'm pretty smart, which means if I were an athlete they'd laud me for my genius. I'd have loved to have the structure and discipline of a practice and game schedule and a tutor in college.

You get the best tutors, schedule classes earlier, more stuff free. It's not like you become dumb if you do a sport. Most just choose to. Given that many opportunities, you can really enrich your knowledge. A school was gonna give me a partial athletic, but the rest of tuition was too expensive.
