Good question--both can offer a horrible education, but at least kids at rural schools don't seem to be in as much physical danger.

I've been to both and rural schools are much worse. It's true, the urban schools are more dangerous, but the education at a rural school is MUCH worse. I could have taught my senior English class.

Urban.
From what I've heard a lot of them are just plain out of control, and the education the kids get is basically craptastic
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 7/27/04 - 9:06:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
Urban...they have to worry about gangs, guns, knives, drug dealing, etc....

I don't think you can compare the two because they are both "worse" in different ways. True, neither are wonderful but it still depends on the region and what is wrong with the school.

The propaganda is different, but propaganda is still propaganda!

lol good point i was talking to my professor the other day and the us is the only country where a child has to hide his intelligence from other children to fit in, and that is from the system and how it only promotes the mimimum standards and not, to excell

I was "sheltered" in "gifted" and "talented" classes, no fun.

16 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 11/16/04 - 8:34:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
Last school year, I moved from a VERY rural school to the largest in this part of the state. There are WAY more course choices, and they aren't have uber serious money problems and firing teachers left and right like the one i moved from
16 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 11/16/04 - 9:43:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've been to both, and it's a split decision for me. The urban one had way more courses, and were far easier, but perhaps they were easier because they were taught better. However I hated the people at the urban school, they were wicked wicked people. There is more hypocrisy and corruption in urban schools too. Very shameful, I might say.
16 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 11/16/04 - 9:46:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
urban schools have more resources to teach kids with i guess. But rural schools are probably a lot nicer, safer enviroment for kids.
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 4/10/05 - 5:13:28 AM EST (GMT-5)
That's odd. I recently applied to Teach For America, but declined the position. I was a bit afraid of both rural and urban students.
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Monday 4/18/05 - 6:42:49 AM EST (GMT-5)
Rural schools are in general mediocre whereas urban schools are mostly horrible, but a few stand out as best.
Besides, the Sweat Hogs weren't so bad.
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Monday 4/18/05 - 7:02:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
Urban... i went to a rural school... and i'm the smartest person i know hyuck
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 4/21/05 - 2:29:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, i went to a rural school that was meant to hold 300 students and held 2000 and never got an addition. Plus everyone was poor, the teen pregnancy rate was sky-high, there were only .02% minorities ( I guess that was me- im middle eastern), only 83% of us finished high school, and only 2.9% of us went to college. Id say it was pretty bad. But Urban schools get a bad rap.
