BELLEVILLE - A trip to Hooters Restaurant isn't appropriate for Signal Hill School students and the superintendent who took them there should know it, a student's parent said Monday. Joni Quaas -- whose 13-year-old daughter was among the seventh- and eighth-graders who dined at the Springfield restaurant -- said she plans to bring her concerns to the Signal Hill School Board meeting.

'I really feel strongly that it's not a healthy place to bring girls,' Quaas said. 'You don't let people get away with things like this. Everybody knows what Hooters is all about.'

Signal Hill School District 181 Superintendent Darrel Hardt took 26 seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls to Hooters in Springfield while there for a two-day Junior National Beta Club Convention. No parents were notified that the trip to Springfield would include a visit to the local Hooters, Quaas said. She found out when her daughter had pictures from the trip developed, including a photograph of an eighth-grade boy standing on a chair while Hooters waitresses danced and sang 'Happy Birthday...'

Should the man who made the decision to take these students to Hooters be fired?

Hooters is a family restaurant. Sure all the chicks have big tits but it is considered suitable for all ages. He shouldn't be fired.

What's next... not allowing anybody under 21 to go into liquor stores? Hooters is a PG-13 restuarant, nothing more.

I'm sure there were other more appropriate restaurants he could have taken them to. If he wanted to go to Hooters he could have gone after the kids were safely tucked in bed for the night.

I don't think he should be fired but I think a reprimand is definitely in order ... that's not a very 'kid-friendly' place and not knowing that isn't an innocent mistake.

Oh grow up, its not like they are naked! Hooters is a friendly atmosphere, and surprisingly good food. He is kinda a dumbass to not realize the sh*tstorm he would bring on himself from prude parents who having nothing else to do but bitch and moan

it isn't a strip bar, so there is nothing wrong with it!

there's not much wrong! i mean, its not like the kids wouldnt want to go (seventh- and eighth-graders). the guy really should be reprimanded, like KikiPeepers said.

Parents feel comfortable taking their kids to the beach. You find skimpier outfits and more drunks there than you would ever see at Hooters. Gee, what an amazing field trip!

I don't see a problem with it, but he could've expected trouble and should've been wiser.

We have daytime adverts with naked women, during the summer, you find naked women in Paris sunbathing, and all along the Med Coast. froggy is right - the parents shouldn't be so up tight! 'tis a family place!

umm, i just think i should point out to miccc that a lot of liquor stores around here won't allow you inside if you're not 21, and if you are with somebody that is 21 when they're buying alcohol, they card everyone that is with them. so if you're not 21, they won't even sell it to the person that is.

but in response to the question, no. I don't think he should be fired for that. It is a family restaurant. maybe a little risque, but not in any means illegal or unappropriate.

It's politics. He's fired, and considering he should have known that his is/was a political job, he deserves it. Hooters is trashy; the waitresses costumes violate every school dress code I've ever heard of, and the very name of the place is slang for boobs (which, of course, is slang itself). You guys are fooling yourselves if you ignore what the real draw of Hooters is, and what it is and always will be known for. Maybe you're trying to be open-minded, but you've clearly spilled your brains because your open-mindedness is out of balance.

I'd never take my own child to Hooters, but let's say I stop at a liquor store, and it's July and 100 degrees out. I take her in. If her teacher, however, takes her on a school-sponsored field trip, and stops at a liquor store, then I have a problem with that. I wouldn't call for the teacher's head, but I would be quite vocal about it, and I know that others might not exercise similar restraint.

Agreed. They're wearing tank tops and shorts. It's hardly obscene.

I wouldn't want the school that my children are attending taking them to Hooters.
