I doubt it's even provable in most cases.

If you can't prove it, it's going to be interesting to see how this town enforces it

All lies are grounded in truth, people would spend all their time arguing the endless philosophy of what lying really is

Well, you're already not allowed to when it really matters (in court, in the news, etc.) and so other stuff is generally undetectable and way too much work to prove one way or the other if it's suspected.

"No, you're bum doesn't look in that".
Sometimes you don't want to hear the truth, so lying's good.

In some cases it already is punishable by law.
In more cases it is punishable by society but apathy is probably the bigger crime.

drat that. It's called perjury when it matters and it's already punishable. Next they'll want to ban flashing old ladies and young children.

Sure go right ahead. I never outright lie anymore, I just give a different version of the truth. Besides, my versions of the truth may not be 100% accurate, but you can't blame me if I make a mistake or a miscalculation here and there, I am only human after all

I don't think it could be. It would be one of the stupidest crimes ever, especially if you got jailed for lying. It just wouldn't add up.

It would be really hard to enforce. How do you define a lie? Something that is not true? Well some writer guy told me once that as soon as you express a fictional thing, it becomes true. Doesnt matter if it actually happened. I'm babbing. Sorry

They already have laws against slander. I suppose it could be extended beyond that though if damages could be proven. I like the idea, but there are too many trivial lawsuits as it is, and this would probably just add to it.
