depends on what class it is. If it was like an environmental class, then probably, but if it was Skinnin 101, then why? he was just doing his job.

Everyone knows only pink elephants carry rabies.

I'd be majorly pissed if my teacher exposed me to rabies.

Of course not it's a carpentry class! Nothing to do with the subject... not to mention nasty poo that the class could have been exposed to.

I think the teacher in question showed extremelly poor judgement and needs to be reviewed simply for that reason.

The guy's gotta be whacked!

Oh it's just great to know that such morons are teaching these poor kids.

For potentially exposing his students to a fatal disease, he should have his employment terminated.
18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 9/5/03 - 11:20:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
that is just gross

I think the guy meant well. He was trying to show his students something they probably never would have had the chance to see otherwise. If there are no rabies and no squeamish kids with tightwad parents, this guy is the teacher of the year. As it is, clearly it was poor judgment.

Now, I'm not saying this guy was a model teacher or anything, but for those of you who would crucify him, revoke his teaching license, etc, I wonder how many of you also lament about the lack of innoventive teaching going on in the world, too. If a guy (who admittedly exercised poor judgment, but again, meant well) gets totally ripped for this, how many other teachers do you think will refuse to take any kind of risk whatsoever in connecting to students? Fewer than before, I can tell you that.

I totally agree with Laughie.

I would have been fascinated to watch the skinning and disection.

Why would the students need rabies shots from watching? Rabies doesn't spread through the air.

Oh god yes, thats gross. Road kill is not sanitatary. He took a risk. Thats nasty and dosent taeach the kids anything anyway.

I think that there were probably more intelligent ways that this man could have demonstrated taxidermy to his students. It is interesting, and I think it's cool that he shared that with them. However, scraping up roadkill and carrying it into the classroom without the permission of any of your superiors is kind of iffy.

Oh for heaven's sakes, no he shouldn't have. Those kids should be up to date on their vaccinations, the parents can't start moaning because they can't be bothered to have their kids take their jabs. Last year in Science (Year 10) my Science teacher told the whole class to put Ethanol on their thumbs, then stab them with a wierd metal thing, put the blood on a slide with a bit of water, put a cover slip on it and stick it under the microscope. He found out afterwards he's allowed to do it by national laws, but not by local laws. But the class didn't care, we were studying blood cells, and no one ran around moaning about AIDS or anything. Live a little people.

"Those kids should be up to date on their vaccinations, the parents can't start moaning because they can't be bothered to have their kids take their jabs."

The rabies vaccine is not standard for anyone who isn't at high risk of exposure.

Plus there are many other diseases that the coyote could be carrying that can't be prevented by vaccination.

Even if the animal were already dead, that's still hideous and unnecessary!
