If Christianity died as a religion and no one knew of Jesus anymore would the entire human species from that point onward be damned to hell?

yes everyone would go to hell because you have to have Jesus in your heart to go to heaven.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 1/25/03 - 2:18:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, not at all. For one thing, there would be hundreds of millions of Muslims, Buddhists, atheists and others who would feel unaffected by the death of Christianity.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 1/25/03 - 2:20:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hmm... from my deist standpoint... no, because everyone would meet the same fate reguardless of religion (except those darned solicitors who call themselves the Jehovah's Witnesses! [j/k">)
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 1/25/03 - 2:21:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, there's no proof of hell.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 1/25/03 - 2:22:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
According to fundamentalist Christians, yes. I'm not fundamentalist, though, and to some extent I feel that God must have a plan either to ensure the possibility of salvation through Jesus or to be saved in some other way. So in the event that Christianity was totally wiped out, He would either resurrect it through divine miracle or provide a new route through which to achieve salvation.

Wouldn't that be a cruel twist of irony?
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 1/25/03 - 2:33:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
wouldn't that be great? *sighs dreamily*
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 1/25/03 - 2:34:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. That would be just a tad silly.

You know what, it's the answers I see people post in response to questions such as these that just put me in the frame of mind to cast a vote in favor of most Christians being "reality challenged"...scared little sheep who would be lost without their make-believe friend the sheperd, aka GOD. Religious faith has wonderful power; it can overcame rationality, hundreds of years of scientific progress, and turn fables into reality. The problem is that too many lack faith in themselves to realize their place in the world is of an individual nature. An invididual thread in the fabric of humanity. Your name doesn't appear in the book of life because there is nobody capable of writing it. To say we all fry if we lose religion...that's a good one. Seems like you fundamentalists out there have a nasty habit of turning a blind eye toward the signs on the road of life that point toward what I thought was our common goal - the truth with a capital T....

I do not believe the above situation is reasonable. However, were it to happen, then it would essentially doom the rest of the human race. As I said, I do not believe the situation is possible.

Hey, if Adam didn't have a naval then he wasn't the same species as us, so we can't be held responsible for his sins! Yip! That was hearsey not so long ago, you know.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 11:05:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
Umm. No and if they did and "god" was that merciless I wouldn't want to believe in him anyway.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 11:06:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
Where the hell do you people come up with these questions??
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 11:08:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
it wouldnt be known, rite? cuz hell and heaven basically are known through the religon of christiantiy. thus if forgotten, along with all the aspects of that religion, people would then either not know/care about it ~or~ would just basically be worrying about cloning and crap
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 11:12:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
timberandyam: that is pretty funny. But actually, that small change would not mean Adam is a different species, as there is no genetic difference and he would be able to breed with any other woman.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 12:24:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
Who did Adam's son Cain have children with ... the serpent?
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 12:57:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
^I've wondered about that too Bored. Also, if Jesus is the son of God, and then there's a holy spirit hanging around too, isn't Christianity a polytheistic religion rather than a monotheistic one??
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 1:03:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yea bored, Adam and Eve had 2 boys..............
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 1:03:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
possibly.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 9:58:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
him being the son of god and all, why wouldnt he just come back?
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 10:46:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Its still a monotheistic religion, based on the teachings of one man. Shaun54, He will like a thief in the might.
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/27/03 - 11:11:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think it will ever die because the Pope won;t let that happen
19 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 1/28/03 - 12:46:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
It would make sense didnt god damn the whole human race because of the mistakes of the first too- its not a fair religion but what religion is ( I may be wrong by the way- dont know the bible that well.)
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 2/18/03 - 11:52:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
if you were a Primitive Baptist, it probably would make no difference as they distinquish between gospel salvation (believeing in Jesus) and eternal salvation (saved even if you have never heard of Jesus). So, if our names are written in the lambs book of life...we are ok. God will judge us by what light we have. Read the first chapter of Romans.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/26/03 - 11:39:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
God will not judge people to hell b/c they have not been exposed. He will judge the people who do know about him and didn't spread the word. But obviously this would never happen b/c he is everywhere and unless he came and took all of his believers there is no way nobody would know about him
