Bullfighting is one of the sickest things I've ever seen.
They repeatedly stab the innocent bull until it dies a slow and painful death. The bull has no chance in hell of winning.

Yeah, bullfighting is pretty sick, I think they should. It's one of the worse forms of animal cruelty.

"A competition rich in culture and history." Yeah, so was slave labor. I think they should outlaw bullfights/running of the bulls, plus crack down on the sociopathic redneck fests they call rodeos.

I thought that bulls would have been classed as 'animals'.

I went to a bullfight when I was younger...I think I quite enjoyed it then, but I do not approve in any way now, and would be very happy to see it banned.

Shouldn't have bulls been included in this new law?

However, I would say that it is one of the only sports that involve killing animals where the animal has a chance to fight back...Hunting for deer, fox hunting etc...they are the blood sports that are worse I would say, and should also be stopped.

Bulls *should* have been included in the new law, but they aren't.

part yes/part no.ok, if *I* was the head of the spanish government. i would immediatly ban it because it literally makes me sick to see them cheer on people torturing poor bulls. but then again i'm not.the spanish seem to not care enough since they started this sport in the first place, it's their traditional sport and since it never bothered them to see a poor bull die just like i doubt it suddenly will.i doubt my point is gonan get across...but whatever.

Yes!!! That is the most cruel thing anyone could do. I can't watch whenever that's on. I get seriously depressed.

I am an adamant anti-bullfighter and live in Spain. I argue constantly with my boyfriend about this but wouldn´t dare argue about it with a stranger - the spanish are incredibly proud of this tradition. It will be many MANY years before this sport is banned. Unlike other bloodsports such as foxhunting, bullfighting is supported by the vast majority of the population - bullfighters are massive celebrities, young boys want to be like them. And it´s not just bullfighting in itself. In almost every town in spain there are annual fiestas and practically all of them have a "running of the bull", not just in Pamplona - all the streets are shut off with iron bars and anyone who wants to get in on the action can enter the cage, chase the bull, throw stuff at it etc etc. The first and only time I saw this I left in tears after only a feww seconds. However, the tradition is so inbuilt throughout spanish society that I don´t believe it will be banned for many ye

Bullfighting is sick. It needs to be stopped. Unfortunately, the people who keep it going are mostly tourists visiting Spain.

I don´t think the tourists keep it going staygold - it´s a highly important part of spanish culture for the spaniards, and it would continue to exist regardless of whether or not tourists came to spain. As I said, almost every town, even the tiniest ones, bring in bulls at fiesta time and chase them round the streets - a mini bullfight if you like - and no tourists go to these.

My spanish boyfriend and I have agreed never to touch upon the subject as he is for it and I´m against - it´s a very spanish thing, and I think it´s hard for any foreigner to truly understand. It seems to be a sort of macho pride thing - man is better than bull etc (which is not strictly true, the bull quite often gets his own back )

I'm with becky. I don't know where Spanish men would be without that "macho pride thing." Taking away bullfighting would be seen as a personal affront, as it's so entwined in the culture and so tied in to the concept of manhood.

Yes, I don't see how abuse of any other animals is now illegal but it's still okay to abuse bulls. Regardless of whether or not it is part of their culture, it is still wrong. I never realized just how abusive they really are to the bulls until I read this thread.

I think it should be stopped. It is incredibly stupid and cruel. Though I always do admit to a certain amount of satisfaction when people who are harming the bull get gored. They do not have any of my sympathy.

Doesn't that already fall under the category of animal abuse?? I mean, bulls are animals--why make an exception for them?

Bulls really should be included. Bullfighting is just as bad as dogfighting or roosterfighting.
