Clarkson may have already had a recording contract - and was in the middle of making a record for someone else - when she showed up to audition for the show. If true, that means Clarkson may have violated the show's rule about being an amateur with no prior professional singing experience.

According to Star, Clarkson - who got a $1 million recording contract that spawned her No. 1 song 'A Moment Like This' when she won the talent show - was already recording an album with three producers before appearing on the show...

It wouldn't entirely be her fault. The producers (or who ever) should have done their homework on her.

Oddly enough, I couldn't give a sh*t.
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 12/19/02 - 9:45:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
It wasn't her fault in my opinion, it's the producers that waited until after the show was over to start asking questions..
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 12/19/02 - 9:46:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
It wasn't her fault for lying? That makes a lot of sense.
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 12/19/02 - 10:29:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
She definitely shouldn't have lied about it - they made that rule really clear and she totally ignored it. She probably didn't think she'd actually win, but that still doesn't make it right. I thought Justin should have won anyway, if she hadn't been there he would have! But I agree too they should have done their homework ... you'd think after all the people that have been outed after reality shows (the parents on Temptation Island and the crazy stalker from Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionare) that networks would really do their homework.

It isn't her fault for lying but if they didn't double check her its their fault. Hopefully they will learn the second time around

is she single?
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 12/19/02 - 11:51:12 AM EST (GMT-5)
Ha ha ... Delmar there is a link to a web site on her in that left-side picture, maybe you can find out there?
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/21/02 - 2:14:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah but she didn't. She went to court and everything. She was not a professional singer before hand.
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/21/02 - 10:27:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
But it said in the contract they can have no previous experience or contacts. She'd been in a studio recording music before, and was working on an album before she tried out for American Idol. There's no doubt she broke the rules, now it's just a question of if she gets to keep her prizes and if they can sue her for breach of contract or something.
19 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/21/02 - 10:29:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's definitely not her fault. She didn't even apply herself, some of her friends did for her. So, seeing as she herself didn't apply, total blame CAN be placed on the producers.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/13/03 - 9:27:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think she was recording songs but not being paid to do it, so that should make her a non profession besides I bet all the final 5 were in studios somewhere around this country recording songs trying to get a break ... Would taking singing lesson make you a pro ? If not then recording songs shouldnt make you one either ...
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 6/10/04 - 9:46:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
Who cares? Her career will fade quickly anyway. Atleast I hope so.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 6/10/04 - 9:49:25 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. It's the producers fault for not checking out the contestants.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 6/10/04 - 10:00:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
i think what ever happened is fine because the people voted on who was best so its fair game in my eyes.

17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 8/23/04 - 11:40:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
I hate American Idol but it's pretty obvious that she did break the rules. Take everything away from her and humiliate the dumb broad
17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 8/23/04 - 11:52:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldn't call her a professional just because she was working on an album.
17 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/9/04 - 4:46:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, that's totally unfair! Grrr!
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 9/23/04 - 2:04:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes I think so
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 10/25/04 - 9:37:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, I think so.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 10/26/04 - 1:13:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
Professional? You're joking.
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 10/26/04 - 1:30:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
Don't watch it and don't really care!
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Wednesday 11/3/04 - 1:48:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
meh, i dont really care. besides, she didn't win world idol. ha!
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 1/5/05 - 10:11:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
no, i don't think she did cheat.
