Well great, instead of syringes, the ground will be littered with frozed bodies.
Can't they just wear gloves that are needle proof, like the police do?

the councils doing the right thing - they are just being abandoned (the blankets) and if that poses a public risk, it should be stopped.

I have to agree with Neon, if they need them so bad, why are they being dumped??!

Is it not a public health risk that the homeless are exposed to the elements? Their welfare must be included in the general public's.
For me, it depends on how big the problem is. We have similar programs here, and I don't notice blankets covering the streets, syringe-carrying or otherwise.

they should be banned. you don't know who's touched those. think about what's in those blankets: lice, blades, etc. i just think it's dirty

hot, it could be a handful who are doing it. Surely you wouldn't ask other homeless people to reuse blankets lying in the streets.

They're homeless people...reusing is fundamental to their existance.
I don't agree with abolishing the program, I think its a worthy cause. BUT I can't in clear conscience say its okay to have (possible) disease infected needles and razor blades, etc littering the streets of any city! Its just not sanitary, think of the animals or children or unsuspecting volunteers.

they reuse everything they can get their hands on wNs, they eat food off the ground, they re-use needles, they re-use clothes etc - what difference is re-uding a blanket - and if it is so important to them, why are they being dumped?

What? Not all homeless people share needles. Cities with needle-exchange have reduced that behavior greatly. Some are even savy about it. And I reuse clothes. I love vintage stuff. I won't even dignify that eating off the ground remark. I personally know a homeless person (well I did) that would never do that. You can't simply lump them all together in this filthy animalistic group. Well, you can, but it's tremendously misguided. The most functional homeless people are the ones you would never know were homeless.

No, I don't agree with it at all. I think it's very cruel because during the day when it's still cold, homeless people don't have that many places to go as they do at night.

I live near Nottingham and I go there a lot, there are a lot of homeless people there so I can see the problem, but I don't agree with the counsil banning blankets...

The blankets are obviously dumped because they can get another one the next night and not have to carry it around all day.

I tend to agree with some of the posts above--if the homeless really needed blankets, they wouldn't be littering the streets with them.
I don't think it's really necessary to ban blankets, they should just enforce the littering laws against the offenders.

well, the only kind of homeless person that deserves ANYTHING, are those guys with like one leg & can't do anything at all...but most other homeless people don't deserve squat....they flunked out of one of the lowest scoring school systems in the world...they should all go kill themselves so i won't have to deal with them

No, I don't. I can see the problem, but I don't agree with the decision.
