Fox Puts True Love to Test on 'Joe Millionaire'

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The latest in a growing procession of prime-time TV courtships might well be called 'Who Wants to Marry a Construction Worker.' But that would spoil the secret.

Fox television will air a show starting Jan. 6 in which 20 young women compete for the affections of a man they believe is a multimillionaire, only to learn in the end that their would-be Prince Carming is an ordinary working stiff, the network said on Monday.

The big question is: Will the show end with a gold-digger spurning the ditch digger, or will true love win out, binding the winning suitor to her penniless diamond-in-the-rough?....

The only way to build a relationship is on honesty and trust. Having a TV show pay for you to act the part of a mulitmillionaire doesn't sound like a healthy way to start a lifetime bond. Or maybe I'm just weird...

Someone kill me please. GOd, that is so stupid.

Serves them right for going on a stupid show like that in the first place.

I don't know about ethical, but its certainly not fair. But what does Fox expect to happen? The "winner" to immediately ditch the guy on national television the minute they find out? I guarantee that whoever wins will say they "love him no matter what." It will be completely anti-climatic. Whether the girl will actually feel that way is another story...

If that is how the scumbags of fox tv want to make there money, let them do so.

I think it's funny.

Fox and ethical in the same sentence? Reality TV and ethical in the same sentence? What funny notions...

It's FOX. Do you expect anything ethical from FOX?

I'm with BR on this one! the concept is hilarious and I'd pay anything to see the look on the face of the "winner" when she finds our her sugar daddy, doesnt have any sugar!

And I agree peachy! It will be hilarious to watch them struggle on camera with the decision ... you know they only did it for the money in the first place, but I bet they won't want to look bad on TV so they may stay with him ... the updates on this will be good to hear after the show is over!

I can't wait to see it. It may not be ethical but I can't wait to see how the "gold digger" takes the big news.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 12/28/02 - 9:32:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
This does look really funny. At first when the commercials just said 'he had a secret' I was like "Maybe he has herpes". But I think the not being a millionaire is better.

I wonder if there is some kind of breech of contract. I'd love to see how the contract these women have signed is worded.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 12/28/02 - 10:35:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
i don't see any of the women on this show being legal geniuses.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/6/03 - 8:38:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
This was GREAT!! I thought there'd at least be one or two girls who seemed sincere, like they only wanted to be there to possibly meet someone they could fall in love with. But ALL of them seemed horribly shallow - I'm sure they edited it like that, but that one chick with the curly blonde hair is a bitch! And the Japanese chick he didn't pick because she wore sunglasses at night. I'm glad he didn't pick her but I wished he wouldn't have picked the 'ambitious' blonde. He did pick the other Asian girl though, who said she wanted a breadwinner, LOL :P This is going to get really good, I can't wait for the next episode! :D
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/6/03 - 8:38:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
NO but they deserve it
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/6/03 - 8:38:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't care if it's ethical or not, it still sucks.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/6/03 - 8:43:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
You didn't like it ArcticRose?! I thought it was hilarious, and this was only the first episode! I agree it's not ethical, but it's true the women kind of deserve it - they are only there for the purpose of meeting a rich man to marry, when marriage doesn't have anything to do with money. But I still think it's a funny concept and now after the first one I can say I'm a fan :)
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/6/03 - 8:43:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd rather have a construction worker husband than a tuxedo wearing husband. I'll be tuning in to the premiere of this show later tonight.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 1/6/03 - 8:45:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well it was basically just like watching all the other reality shows. I can only stick to one at a time here and then there was an overload of 10 at a time and I just can't keep up. That and it really does suck, I keep thinking the whole show was a hoax and not just the fact that the guy wasn't really a millionaire..
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 1/8/03 - 2:28:28 AM EST (GMT-5)
>^,,^< - Gotta love that trash. How about some trashy undies too?ConstructingEvan Who wants another one?
