Now that Dennis Miller`s outta there, HBO`s plugged in Bill Maher.
Maher, whose long-running and fatally controversial Politically Incorrect was offed in June by ABC, has taken over Miller`s 11:30 p.m. Friday time slot on the cable network.
HBO has ordered up 20 episodes of the yet-to-be-titled Maher project, which launches February 21. According to HBO, the hourlong show, like its predecessor, will `be devoted to news and comedy, allowing Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues.` It will air live on the East Coast and be tape-delayed on the West Coast.
`HBO has enjoyed a productive long-term relationship with Bill Maher, who is one of the most distinctive and provocative humorists on the scene today,` says Chris Albrecht, HBO`s chairman and CEO. `This edgy new show will give him a regular, uncensored forum for the first time ever on TV.`...
ABC didn't like him because he was too much of a loose cannon and occasionally attacked the network itself and some of the sponsors. ABC is a bunch of spineless b*stards for taking him off.
I think he is great--I love him confronting hypocritical politicians to their faces.
I have cable but not HBO; it costs extra and I am broke. However if I did have HBO, I would never miss it. Politically Incorrect was my favorite show and I hear his new show is the same only no commercials and no censoring. I might just have to shell out the extra money each month for HBO. I haven't decided yet.
