LOS ANGELES (AP) - Tom Petty will be live in concert at a theater near you but he won`t necessarily be there.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will perform a concert on Oct. 15 in Los Angeles. They`ll perform their new album, `The Last DJ,` in its entirety with an orchestra. The show will be broadcast live via satellite to movie theaters in 36 cities nationwide.

According to tompetty.com, a 30-minute TV show of behind-the-scenes studio footage of performances as well as documentary footage from `The Last DJ` recording sessions will also be broadcast at various times on different stations around the country this month.

`The Last DJ` will be released Oct. 8. The band will start touring on Oct. 27.

Not lazy at all, especially since he'll actually be touring behind this disc. This is a one-off show with an orchestra. Other bands have done this successfully (Metallica comes to mind).

I always thought that the point of a concert was the audience. How can there be a connecion between the audience and the performer via a satellite? He may as well release it straight to video.

Maybe he's too tired to tour. My dad quit touring cuz he hated being on the road all of the time. Tom is still making music. That's good enough for me.
