From Remarks by the President to the 14th Annual World Pork Expo, Iowa State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, Iowa

'I remember -- I remember campaigning in Chicago, and one of the reporters said, would you ever deficit spend? I said only -- only in times of war, in times of economic insecurity as a result of a recession, or in times of national emergency. Never did I dream we'd have a trifecta. (Laughter.)' I don't think that is funny. I wonder if he just learned the word trifecta recently.

I don't see anything wrong with that remark. I don't think he is being disrespectful in any way.
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:20:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
Not particularly funny but I don't see anything wrong with it. It's not like a 'how many WTC victim's bodies can you fit in a car' joke or something...
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:21:49 AM EST (GMT-5)
Kind of an odd question though. Who would answer 'Yes' he should be cracking jokes?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:22:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
Apparently me and one other person so far...I suspect danielee...insensitive bastard.

19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:36:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
Are we sure the laughter wasn't from a laugh track?

Nice rhetoric and misinformation on your avy. The reason 60% of low-income families wouldn't have reduced income taxes under Bush's plan? Most low-income families already pay zero income taxes. Hard to reduce the number zero any further. Children under the age of 18 without health insurance under eight years of Clinton: The same as now. The "tax rebate" was from Clinton's last budget, from which there was a surplus of taxes taken. How is money borrowed if there is a surplus?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:49:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
"How is money borrowed if there is a surplus?" Even though I'm "vacationing" in Germany, I need to answer this. if ( $surplus < $rebate ) { borrow }

I can see why some people would be offended, but he´s speaking the truth, who WOULD have expected it?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:51:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
Usually, the "hitting the trifecta" is an extremely lucky event... or you have really good inside information... So was Bush "lucky" to have 9/11 or did he have insider information?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:52:33 AM EST (GMT-5)
"I don't think that is funny. I wonder if he just learned the word trifecta recently." now THAT's funny!
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:52:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
In all honesty, I didnt check any of those figures when I downloaded the picture. My problems with bush are more along ideological lines than actual flaws in his admin. So, where are your frontal lobes?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:53:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
jk...
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 6:55:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
Are you being serious Dorf . . .are you really putting that much weight on this comment by Bush? I guess the vacation hasn't taken effect yet.
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 7:15:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
did you read what he said afterwards?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 7:28:02 AM EST (GMT-5)
I understand the concept, but for FY2001, ( $surplus > $rebate ). According to the CBO, we still ran a surplus last year.
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 8:32:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, I don't think he should
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 11:40:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
no one should
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 11:42:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
I want to know if he mispronounced "trifecta."
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 11:43:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
At least he didn't say "If you fly American Airlines they'll deliver you right to your office."
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 11:44:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
also "only in times of war, in times of economic insecurity as a result of a recession, or in times of national emergency" is four things which would bew a quadrifecta.
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/12/02 - 11:58:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
No one should!
