What actual language it is, no. Maybe if someone came to a church and recorded people speaking in tongues, like a linguist or something, they could identify it. ...I don't think most people who are speaking in tongues are as concerned w/ knowing what language they're speaking as they are with FEELING God. |

Sounds very subjective to me. I had heard from people claiming to have witnessed speaking in tongues that it is not a recognisable language. Either way, it doesn't seem miraculous if it is not a proper language that the speaker didn't know. |

(Class was canceled!  ) Just wanted to mention in response to Kyry, that in the scriptural text I posted, the on-lookers DID recognize the languages being spoken. They said "we hear men speak in the tongues from the lands that we were born in" |

Yes, as a child I was in a weird Pentecostal
church once (my family was visiting someone, we're all pretty non-religious) and they were doing that. It scared me!

Its a special language between you and the Holy Spirit. Sometimes you don't know what to pray for so the spirit in you knows so it speaks in tongues. You might understand it or you might not. Not all people will get it. They have other gifts that God will give them.

i've seen my grandmother and a friend of my mom's speak in tongues.when I first saw it, I was young so I was kind of frightened. I never have though.
