Hellraiser

Was cool and creepy and I enjoyed it. Hellraiser 2 is next.
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/2/17 - 8:49:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
i don't know what i expected when i first watched that, but i remember being surprised at how gross it is

i'm starting to get into my horror movie a night phase now that it's october, but i started early on friday with rosemary's baby
then saw it again on saturday (still just as good as my first time seeing it)

broke the streak last night by watching la la land
i really enjoyed that movie, but i'm kind of confused why it was even up for best picture
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/2/17 - 9:00:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
because it sucked Hollywood's dick. the academy LOVES any movie that just incessantly goes on and on about 'hollywood' and the magic of movies and all that

it's why The Artist won despite being thuddingly mediocre

La La Land is a really good movie and i get the nomination. there were better films not nominated but for a mainstream industry film, it was solid.

Hidden Figures was the sore thumb. it's...pretty not good

I actually enjoyed Hidden Figures.

geralds game

god damn man that was a hard watch. i wont spoil anything but from start to finish it was an uncomfortable movie. the blood and gore effects are too realistic and the psychological aspects rushed over me like a wave after the movie reveals certain details later. what i like is it doesn’t call back to it to prove how smart it is, it just lets you remember the small details on your own. mike flanagan does that with his movies a lot and i feel like this was his magnum opus. its a slow burn that takes its time for a pay off that works. the use of color in this movie is also something to be mentioned. anyway, good movie!

i'm getting into spooky movie October
so far:
der nachtmarr
okish movie about german teenage haunted by a weird little creature like from that painting with really loud german techno scenes which were neat

sauna
muddled but interesting finnish movie about mediaeval finns and russians mapping the boundaries between them and coming across a spooky village in the middle of swamp. really interesting setting and good characters

lovely molly
pretty generic and disappointing movie about a lady possibly going mad or it's demons or maybe both that's like a million movies i already saw, although the main performance was good

half of 33 tales of terror, five minute Japanese horror shorts from a bunch of directors, mostly very silly but pretty fun

story of my life
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 10/7/17 - 8:20:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
I watched the first human centipede last night

I built the nastiness of that movie way too high up in my mind, so I refused to watch it up to now
then I figured I would see what it's all about and if it got too nasty I'd just shut it off

this movie has maybe two gross parts and even then they aren't even that gross visually

ultimately it's just a bad movie
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 10/7/17 - 8:22:40 AM EST (GMT-5)
i mainly liked the villain, he was great
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 10/7/17 - 8:29:21 AM EST (GMT-5)
a doctor should know that sh-t holds no nutritional value

also it shows the centipede in many locations throughout the house and everyone is fine, but when it actually shows the centipede moving to different locations at the end it quickly becomes clear how impossible the other parts of the movie are

that spiral staircase would have probably killed them right from the start
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 10/11/17 - 9:07:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
i watched Raw and oh boy do i not understand the praise or the controversy

it's a shallow, pretentious edgy-ass film that doesn't really offer anything new or truly provactive

it's gross sometimes
and well acted
with some (perhaps accidentally) neat shots

but it doesn't have the gleeful unrestrained depravity of a Human Centipede or the nihilistic artful poetry of a Only God Forgives (two films i dislike but respect)

it feels like a student film. it takes itself too seriously and doesn't feel as weird, violent, or mean as it could have been

and it's european! i expect more from you guys in regards to this sh-t

I watched that this evening (I watch it every October, along with The Omen, plus other horror movies that vary from year to year). It's always just as good as it was the first time.

This October has been
1. Hellraiser
2. Candyman
3. The Omen
4. Nightmare Before Christmas (I know, not exactly horror)
5. Suspiria
6. Psycho
7-8 I skipped because I was out of town
9. Creepshow (hadn't seen it in years, and it's still terrible)
10. Get Out
11. Lost Highway (again, stretching the definition of horror, but it's been a while, plus Robert Blake is super f*cking creepy in it and I actually had nightmares last night)
12. Rosemary's Baby
Obviously I've been saving Friday the 13th for tomorrow. I just might do a double feature of parts 1 and 2 because I like both.
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 10/12/17 - 11:20:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Last movie I watched was: The Last Unicorn.
Next movie I will watch: *searches Netflix for four hours before finally settling on The Last Unicorn*
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 10/12/17 - 11:21:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
Haven't planned out the rest of the month yet, although obviously it's going to be Halloween on Halloween. And I think I might need to find another double feature night for both Andy Warhols (Blood for Dracula and Flesh for Frankenstein). I have both on VHS still lol.

This was my favorite movie for about two years when I was 5-6. My mom eventually got so tired of it she wouldn't let us rent it anymore.

Watching it as an adult was so weird. That tree scene.

The boobs on that lady bird thing.
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 10/13/17 - 6:20:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
i watched The Meyerowitz Stories and boy howdy do i still not like Noah Baumbach
it's this cycle
where a film of his will get rave reviews
audiences and critics love it (or tolerate it in Greenberg's case)
and it just does not work for at all

i'm trying to find a way to be more specific, but his style just...really irritates me

the film has *fantastic* performances
is a lot more consistent and hits higher marks than previous Baumbach films

but has so many of the same annoying quirks and a really grating ending

i'd rather just watch Royal Tenenbaums. or *any* Wes Anderson movie. if i have to watch a pretentious filmmaker, i'll choose the one having more fun with it
3 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 10/13/17 - 6:26:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
(although Stiller, if he's doing a serious role, should only work with Baumbach. Baumbach is the only director to get great performances out of him)

I LOVE TLU! I've even also read the book and loved it, too.

The Red Bull scared me as a child, though.

At the end, I'm always (even still) afraid the bull is going to get her.
