everybody should go see this movie. i'm not good at in-depth reviews like Chips is so i'm just gonna say it's really f-cking great. the performances, the atmosphere, the music, the editing, seriously everything.

and Ron Perlman has to be the missing link.

Uh...it f-cking sucked. Seriously. I hate this whole thing and felt bored out of my mind through most of it.

I thought it was really great, but the "Average Joe" might feel differently and expect more of an straight up mindless action movie (based on the marketing.)

It reminded me of Crash, but without Sandra Bullock, so a plus. But I don't expect Oscar buzz here. Ryan Gosling is underrated by many.

girls are idiots

My brother really liked it too, said it was great. He recommended I watch it if I don't mind violent films...which I do. I always end up hiding behind my hands for half the film so I might give this one a miss!

Ryan Gosling's looking pretty fine in that silk jacket.

The action/violence that happened, that was cool.
My problem? The endless pauses in their conversation.

"So how are you?"
-insert 2-3 minutes-
"Fine, you?"
-another 1-2 minutes-
"Good."

The dialogue was painful. If it had been straight up action throughout most of the movie it wouldn't have been so bad.

Granted I exaggerated, but it was still painfully long,

that was probably the only thing that sort of annoyed me. still, Gosling is able to emote so easily without words and the chemistry he had with Mulligan was amazing. they didn't need to say a lot. i actually thought the film was too short. i wanted another 40 minutes of him just driving and some cool 80's music playing.

Ok, I loved this film

I am not good with violence and the like....but that just means I am fun to go to see those kinds of movies with because I get really involved...jumping when someone gets hit etc.

ANYWAYS, maybe you guys who have seen it can explain something to me

The mask scene really creeped me out...when he was killing the guy on the beach...but here is my quetsion....why the mask? Just for the creep factor? I mean he was going to kill the guy anyway, plus the guy already knew what he looked like. I thought the mask was a bit of an unnecessary aspect...unless I just didn't get something.

it was so he didn't get recognized when he to the party. he wanted to make sure he knew where Ron Perlman's character was and couldn't risk being seen. also it was metaphorical of him becoming somebody else, and sort of accepting it.

I really like this movie, but I have to agree about some of the dialogue. I had this image in my head of a screen writer spilling coffee on the script.

awesome awesome awesome soundtrack

with regards to the dialogue, i thought that the point was that he was this cool taciturn mysterious archetype like you get in all these sort of movies (especially back in the 70s and stuff), and as such when it came to real communication with a real human being, he was just terrible.

i loved it. his character was so great, at once sweet and sincere and innocent, and then he flips out and is terrifyingly violent and calm

i also didn't think much of the lack of dialogue because of their chemistry and the atmosphere. i only noticed it was odd on my second viewing

but that soundtrack right? sh-t. oh my gosh.

F*cking awesome piece of directing.

The opening scene is the best car chase ever: smart, no hysteria, and the camera is always inside the car.

Brilliant film. Some truly beautiful shots, just excellent.

It was pretty slow....Then it just became ridiculous when people started being killed.
