The special effects, visuals, and CGI were outstanding. The story however, was a little too Pocahontas for me. It's the liberal world view. The marines, modern technology, and progress are evil; the natives, low tech, and living under a tree is good.

I didnt see modern technology as evil at all in the movie. I think people are seeing way too much into this movie. I saw examples of using it for good and bad. It seems people with that view point ignore Weavers character and the fact that the tech was what made his mission possible.

Knowledge of technology was important. If they didn't know about the radars not working in the mountains, the people wouldn't have gone there

Weaver was one of the sky people, not the natives. It was sort of the sky people vs the natives, and the low tech natives won.

The scene with them fighting the marines with bows and arrows was more realistic.

Good movie - a combination of one thing I hate about our societies, one thing I love, the constant pursuit of knowledge & great representation of almost everything I wish our society was...true biological and cognitive connections. I feel like it's one possible highest evolutionary state.
I would not put what the humans did in this movie past our world leaders. That's why I'm glad they put this movie out so we never let that happen.

i don't see how anyone can watch that crap unless they're horny as hell. i wouldn't spend any kind of money to watch that junk. but that's my opinion, not that anyone cares.

i think the fact that some ppl like it and others don't is VERY WELL established. i LOVED this film and i can't wait for it to come out on dvd! sure the storyline was very predictable and cliche, but all the same it was a nice storyline even if it is common. i mean, who didn't enjoy Pochahontas? if you enjoyed that movie which storyline is pretty much the same, then there should be no reason why you shouldn't enjoy Avatar as well. Even tho it has the same storyline as Pochahontas, it is 10 times better than that movie will ever be and i love Pochahontas! So that's saying alot in my opinion. Not to mention the graphics, scenery, action, and characters was soo much better.

This may be a stupid question and I should probably look it up maself but if you could be so kind as to tell me why they call it AVATAR???

The Marines control these bodies that are different from their own and the only way they can transfer their minds into those bodies is to lie down in some capsule thing. Once the process of transfering their minds is done the Marines can then control the other bodies which are known as Avatars. Sorry, but this is the best I know how to explain it lol.

I, of course, enjoyed the Real D 3D aspect of the movie because it was cool to see. The previews were really cool to watch in it, too.

The movie? Meh.

I don't think i'll be in a any hurry to see this. I think people spend far too long with these gimmicks like 3D. I prefer good old ashioned story-telling like in Tarantino's flicks.
I occasionally make room for CGI, but not loads (with maybe the exception od Alice in Wonderland.)

3d is hardly a gimmick. Its been used for decades. They are doing it right now. No bullsh*t pop ups like before.

...and I don't think that we'll be seeing every movie in 3d. I mean, you can't really make a Romantic Comedy a 3d experience.
12 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 3/2/10 - 1:51:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, i went to see Up and i wasn't impressed. I'm willing to try it again with Wonderland, but i just think i'll be disappointed again.

I bloody hope not. There are loads of Directors who say they won't go 3D and i'm happy about that.

TBH, I don't know why people bitch about 3D in movies. Did people bitch when movies started being filmed in color?

You don't have to wear goofy glasses to watch a color movie.

Because everybody else in the dark room wearing the same goofy glasses thinks you look funny.

Where in the world do humans not kiss? Finland?

The Inuit didn't kiss until the European settlers came and showed them how. They rubbed noses.

Actually I think I didn't watch the movie. I was getting the hidden message ringing loud and clear with regards to religion and war.

Was not impressed with flying jellyfish, nor the extended feelers thing - remember they have two, not one - to use one only is really imbalancing the whole thing.

And it wasn't a well made plot, the culmination at the ending was pretty weak at best. The 3D glasses werent much novelty either.
