I guess there was a deleted sex scene that will be on the DVD/Bluray. Just like they connect with that little pony tail to the animals and trees..they hook up that way too to have sex.

Yeah, that's another thing..

The USB-braid. What the hell?

we talked about that on the way home..."how do you think they have sex? do they just connect with their braids?"
my reasoning is that they have loincloths, etc. for a reason...so there must be something done there.

"The story is pretty much Disney's Pocahontas" I whispered this to my friend while we watched it...she didn't see the similarities at all, apparently.

That's the first thing I thought while watching this movie - Intergalactic Pocahontas! As the movie progressed I thought it was more of a Dances with Space Wolves.

My brother-in-law would not shut up as we were watching this. Apparently, the guy is a Star Trek fan but could NOT grasp the whole avatar concept. "Now, he's the blue guy NO he's the crippled guy." "Isn't he dead in that crypt thing?"and on and on and on. He didn't shut up until "the really tall, blue guy" went all Harlequin romance.

It was visually stunning and the alien flora and fauna made it worth seeing. I'll buy it.

I watched Dances with Wolves in school, so naturally I was not paying attention / sleeping / hating life during it.

Except James Cameron wrote the treatment for Avatar in 1994 and Pochahontas was released in 1995.

Because of the hype, I am not interested in seeing this. I just get like that over films that everyone goes on about.
Except for SATC !!..

maybe it's because im easily entertained (and that may just be the case), but i really enjoyed the movie.

i mean, i understand all the talk about his "done to death" plot line, which it was; ten minutes into the movie and i knew how events were to unfold, but this guy has made how much with his TWO billion dollar making films?

come on...

Funny people think thats an insult when the source of that came from the director stating it was one of his infulences. I havent seen it yet. Looks like a video game to me.

It actually WOULD make a pretty good video game....

Anyways, I saw this the other night and really enjoyed it. Mind-blowing special effects, and a very good (if a bit typical) storyline. I love Sigourney Weaver's character. However, I'm not sure how well this movie will transfer over to DVD/Blu-Ray..........

Not really, they have those for loads of "Good Vs. Evil" movies. They're intentionally written with the new one in mind.

Depressed fans? All of a sudden I get the feeling that Avatar fans are stupider than Twilight fans...

When I first read that, I laughed. But then I remembered I was pretty bummed that I couldn't live on Pandora for a few minutes after I left the cinema.
Then I got over it.

None of the animals had overlapping mouths/respiratory tracts for one; respiratory openings for all the animals were in the neck. Further, Pandora's lemur counterpart had six limbs (as did all the other animals on Pandora). It's not that animals had Earth counterparts; it's that the Na'vi are so anatomically different from every other animal presented on Pandora that, were Pandora real, I might consider the Na'vi prime candidates for intelligent design.

Most of the flying creatures appeared to be tetrapods. Actually, anatomically quite like bats (although their flight dynamics, despite having incredibly similar wing structure were entirely off - I wish they had studied more bat flight dynamics for them. Bats actually have much cooler movement).

Wish they'd dwelled longer on the plant forms.

Yes, but the story is from 1607...

All that aside, I saw it, love it, will see it again in the theatre, and will own the DVD. I would definitely recommend seeing it in TrueD 3D as well, if you can.

The movie really bored me personally. I was not into the whole hippie thing at all. And wow it's not like we haven't seen visuals ever like those. (sarcasm)
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 1/15/10 - 1:08:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
Okay, coming from someone who REALLY didn't want to see this (I thought it was going to be boring as hell...)

OMG. I loved it. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, didn't want to go to the bathroom in case I missed anything...I'd see it again. The visuals were fantastic, and sure the plot is overdone (who really cares?) but I enjoyed it.

I didn't see it in 3D, but now I want to go back and do that.

I love this movie. I'm not a sci-fi fan and didn't spend time dissecting it. I just sat there and let myself be engrossed by the visuals and didn't feel the time go by. I'd go back to see it 3D again.
12 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 1/20/10 - 11:44:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
I thought this was really awesome. You've got to see it in 3D.
12 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 1/21/10 - 3:26:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
I disagree about the 3D. It's nice, but you don't NEED to see it in 3D.

i've seen it twice in 3D but the 3D doesn't really make the movie, it just adds to it a bit.

Meh. Not bad, but not great. 3/5.
