It might be a repost, but it's from Planet Earth which has been airing on TV a lot lately. It's the best nature documentary ever made.
It was originally a British program in HDTV quality. With that kind of detail it was a 1000 times more beautiful than this youtube version.
Obviously, this was the episode about jungles.

15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:11:05 AM EST (GMT-5)

15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:14:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
Would this work on humans too?
15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:18:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
In 50 years, we'll all be controlled by this. And the monkeys that have spears will take over, and the seas will be ruled by jellyfish.

Thanks, global warming.

When I was young I used to have a colony of ants in a formicary and they all died like this! Now I know what it was!!
15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:19:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
it's not quite a repost, I mean it's the same fungus but a different vid I think.

And according to wikipedia it's used for medicinal purposes in humans, so I guess it doesn't work on the human brains. Too bad.

15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:36:33 AM EST (GMT-5)
that was creepy as hell o_o
15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:39:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
I never new nature could be so interesting. Is there a cordyceps fungus for humans too?
15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 6/9/07 - 4:40:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
some dumbass scientist should genetically engineer it to affect humans. smart people do that kind of dumb thing all the time.

this is a good example of something that i cant imagine evolving. unguided evaluation in a world without some god-like figure leading to a parasitic fungus that can grow in a ants head and put pressure on the right area or whatever it does to alter its behavior in a way to benefits it doesnt seem possible to me.
