This was already done a couple of years ago by Tony Robinson, he found an original bloodline in Australia, ie the bloodline that would be the current monarchy if various events hadnt happened or something.

Not that it matters a whole lot, the Royal Family has just about zero political influence. If I recall right (though I could certainly be wrong), they can't even vote.

how would one go about proving that they are the heir? and if you knew wouldn't you already be in contact with them?

A person would have to show a genealogy recorded tracing back to 1066; their self/parents/ grand-parents/ggrand-parents/ and so on. Which is not easy if you have to start from scratch and work your way back. I've been working on mine for 10+ years; and so far I only gotten as far as 1612. If a family has kept records of their lineage it wouldn't be too hard to go back that far.

I have a distant claim on my mother's side but nothing significant. Basically, 500,000 people die, and I'm king of England!

I have adoption in my family. It will be too hard for me to even bother trying to find out my heritage.

Same thing with me, Kaiser250. If enough people died, I could be queen.

Of course, if France still had a monarchy, I could claim there too... Charlemagne, I think (probably ddin't spell it right).

Ahh English heritage ...

kim, it doesn't have to be English. The current line of succession only stays in England for like the first 30 people, then it goes to russia, bulgaria, norway, etc.
