So it's G's b-day tomorrow. I was going to make him a (simple) cake, and had bought decorations and balloons and stuff..he's had a rough year and I wanted to make him feel good. BUT! He has work, then school in the evening, and then we're probably going OUT to dinner with his folks. So, should I do the cake the next day? Seems pointless, neh? What do you think?

I already gave him his book, the chocolate fondue, and am going to give him a sexy jacket. Hope he likes.

I think it's fine to wait until the day after.
It'll be all cute and unexpected and just you two.

Nah it's not pointless, have a belated you-two-only celebration!

If he likes cake, it won't matter what day it is that he gets it from you. What matters is that you made it for him and that he can consume it.

Aww, thanks guys!
It's just that he's sort of traditional with dates and stuff, so I bet he'd prefer it on the same night, but..

But you made me feel better about it.

It's just extending the celebration, really. So, it started on time and lasted longer than expected, is all!

Delicious cake is never pointless. He's hardly going to be annoyed at it is he?

Take a picture of the cake and give that to him on his birthday, but tell him he can't have his cake and eat it, too.

Okay, maybe not.

Eat the cake after dinner!

What a flirt!

Can you maybe bring the cake to the restaurant and ask them to bring it out and sing "Happy Birthday" at the end of the meal, if he's such a date-stickler?

But otherwise, I would agree with everybody else and say that cake is NEVER pointless.

Probably won't be able to, we will probably have dinner near his parents' house and then he'll go back to theirs.

no, of course not

tess! hi! how are you , dear?
I suppose I could do that, except that he hates being sung happy birthday to, and all that fuzz. So I'l probably spare him. Good idea though, thanks lady. !

Everybody hates that. I think that's the point, we're all a bit sadistic at heart.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:09:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hahah yeah totally!

I don't think everyone hates it though. There are too many AWs in the world..

How is your uncle doing? I know he's not well, but I mean... is he still the same? better, worse?
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:19:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
Spent a few days at home, but heading back to hospital now. Not doing well at all. He looks awful... 20 years older than he did a monh ago.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:22:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
God.. that's f*cked up. I hadn't heard from you in a while so was hoping you'd say he was at least more stable or something. I'm sorry. I hope this is all over soon, for his sake. How's his wife? Every time you talk about her I feel for her so much.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:32:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
She was so happy when he came home... She's trying hard to stay positive. After visiting them, I had a dream where she kept saying he was going to be fine, and he was screaming that he was scared, but nobody noticed.

He hasn't even started the chemo yet.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:42:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
oh girl, what an awful dream. *big hug* it's okay though, it's just your mind helping you to get ready. but still, I bet you woke up pretty shaken up.

Has he agreed to the chemo?
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:47:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not so much shaken up as just wishing she would let him grieve and try to accept the situation rather than deny it.

Yes. Molly keeps saying it's going to be a breeze for him. But he has to make it at least six weeks past the surgery where they removed two feet of small intestine, first, and he's... not doing so hot so far.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/27/09 - 4:49:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
must be so hard for her though. I wish she could too, but some things we are just not ready to accept.

is Molly his wife?
