13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 12/11/08 - 1:35:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
I copy and pasted from the weather channels Winter Warning forecast-

Lots of old people in Maine, we need the large writing

You know, the last time we had an ice storm of thios size, the powerlines were down 2 weeks before they were fixed

Stock up on hot cocoa/coffee

I want a winter storm. It doesn't feel like xmas season here without it. Very depressing.

Ice storms are NOT fun-the weight of the ice causes trees and power lines to collapse-

And idiots in 4 wheel drives crash into things because they think they can drive 80 MPH on ice-

The ice gets so think that the salt/sand doesn't work-just slides across-especially if it'a windy

And Rob_can_run-tourists are the main cause of Vehicle deaths here in Maine in the winter-

Peopl have NO idea how bad it can get-especially here on the coast, where the icefog can polish the ice to lethal slipperiness-

Police/ambulance/fireman have special attatchments to put on their shows not unlike mountain climbers to give them the ability to walk on the ice if necessary-

I am watching an salt truck s-l-o-w-l-y try and drive up my street and he's fishtailing just the same

13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 12/12/08 - 11:10:53 AM EST (GMT-5)
Scary!
About 8 years ago my mom and I were driving in the mountains to one of her client's house to clean in a snow storm. There was some type of delivery or moving truck behind us, don't remember exactly. But as soon as we turned onto a street and got out of his way he sped up around his corner and spun around. It was on a road that wound up the side of the mountain with no rails He corrected himself though.
There are some crazy drivers that come out in the winter.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 12/12/08 - 11:16:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
The scariest drivers are the ones that don't have any experience driving in this stuff-tourists usually-

Especially on the coast...we had really bad ice fog-frankly, unless your car has an automatic starter or was garaged, I can't se how people could get IN their cars-everything is sealed in an inch of ice-

Everything is shut down here in town-
