The first day of classes.
Tomorrow.

I was excited, but now I'm dreading it.
I have 4 straight hours of classes....but only 2 classes.
One of my classes is 3 hours long.
I really don't feel like sitting in the same classroom for 3 hours.

Anyway....how are the rest of you tonight?

13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:16:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
All of my classes are 3 hours long. Whiner!

Hopefully they'll be classes you enjoy, though.

Ew!
I feel bad for you.

Anatomy and speech?
I think not.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:20:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
I feel bad for me too.
:I even have a 3 hour long math class. It makes me want to die.

Anatomy can be fun! I can see how speech wouldn't be, though.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:21:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
Speech is my 3 hour class.
Anatomy is only an hour.
I have Math on Tuesday....it's only one hour.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:22:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
Anything else you'd like to brag about?

I really don't even know what goes on in speech. I feel a bit stupid.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:25:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not yet.

I don't know what goes on in there either.
I'm guessing they are just going to lecture how to write speeches and do well at giving them and make amazing power points?
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:27:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Could be. I had speech and debate in high school, and it was a whole lot of presenting. It wasn't bad. However, I don't know how different it would be minus the debate thing.

Arguing just makes things more fun.

I have 2 classes tomorrow, three on Tuesday...it's all of the nasty, tho...we'll both be oky.

Back when I took a public speaking course, our first assignment was to tell a joke to the class.

Uh....I really hope we don't have to do that.
I will look like a total ass.

You'll most likely have to give an impromptu speech, an extemperaneous speech, a special occasion speech, a debate, and a research paper.

Speech actually isn't hard if you haven't any issues with standing in front of a group and talking. And memorizing your speech is always helpful.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:31:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
Just don't be so worried 'bout it!
Take a deep breath, go up, do what you have to do - and remember, everyone ELSE is feeling uber-stupid as well.

I'm not worried about the class.
I'm not worried about talking in front of people.
I really don't want to tell a joke, though.

True.

If you have to tell a joke, use this one:

"What is brown and sticky?"

"A stick!"

13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:34:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
That's how I tried to keep calm.
I also thought my voice shook a LOT...but talking to the prof, she said "nope, you actually sound really natural!"...she was probably lying.

Well, if your professor / tutor / guy off the street they got in to keep you busy has any sense then the three hours will not be a three hour lecture.

We know people can't pay attention for that amount of time without serious loss of concentration and recall of information.

I would hope the class will include interactive learning, group discussions and other activities to keep you alert.

speech?
do you have an impediment?

Well we will find out tomorrow and I will let you know.
I'm sure it's a class split into two parts....but on the first day....you don't do sh*t.

in my experience, three hour classes break for fifteen minutes.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 8/24/08 - 8:37:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
I feel for you, usually when I have 3 hours classes my professor gives a 10-15 minute break in the middle. Maybe yours will do the same.

If you have to tell a joke heres the one my cousin's 84-year old grandmother told me the other night:

There was a horse and a chicken and they became good friends and they would play together in the field.

One day the horse fell in a ditch and the chicken thought "Oh no! What do I do!" And then she knew! "I'll get the farmers Mercedes" she thought. So she ran and saw that the farmer was gone and took his Mercedes and tied a rope to it and was able to pull the horse out of the ditch.

A few weeks later they were playing and the chicken fell in the ditch this time. The horse thought "I know what to do! I'll get the Mercedes!" But when he got to the farm the farmer was gone and so was the car!

So the horse thought "Oh no! Now what!" And then he thought "I know!" and he ran to the ditch and put two legs on one side and two legs on the other and the chicken was able to grab on to him and climb out.

And the moral of the story is, if you're hung like a horse, you don't need a Mercedes to pick up chicks.

I remember at least one person wouldn't do it. We gave a few different speeches throughout the semester. I HATE public speaking, but it wasn't that bad of a class.

Expect the usual dire warnings about plagarism, attendance and leaving your phone on.

I vote you use the stick joke.
