I need cheap. I am seeing them crop up in yard sales. In working order mind you.

WHat's a good one.?What's a bad one.?I don't want overly complicated. I am olde and need something simple and not something that requires a manual to operate.

Especially since at yard sales, they are without manuals and ear buds.

What's a good memory? Are the older ones worth it?

I gave no money to speak of..really. But at a yard sale(always looking for costime jewelry for the beads)I saw one for 5 bucks...the music was all classical stuff with composers whos names I didn't recognise.

What's a great downloading site for music?

Itunes, amazon, something else?

To fit that list? Stolen ipods.

Or a walkman

Depends what you want it for. Roughly how many albums are you looking to store on it? How important is high sound fidelity to you?

You have to be weary of second hand ones. Most mp3 players have built in rechargable batteries that can only be recharged a limited number of times. If you're only looking to store say 20 or so albums on average fidelity you can probably get one of the pen style mp3 players which take AAA batteries.

This is good to know. This stuff.

So a yard sale one might not last?

I just want one that plays songs lots of songs and shuffles them.

Especially if I end up doing Physical therapy.

Itunes is very user friendly, but you have to bear in mind most music you get off the net will have DRM. For instance I believe Itunes will only legally upload songs onto an Ipod.

Seriously, don't buy them used. Probably won't work well.

I think the sandisk idea is solid. Fairly inexpensive, too.

How long do the batteries last?
How much music does a typical one hold?
How much is the music?

Is it all music are just the popular stuff?

Can you share the tunes, or are the tunes reusable?

How much are they asking at the yard sales, typically?

I'd be wary of getting a used one, personally. Battery life is such a big part of it. Technology is improving so fast that (just like cellphones) they seem disposable. You'd likely be buying someone's trash... they're probably getting rid of it because it doesn't function as well as it once did, rather than buying a new one for something flashier. Chances are, there's something less than ideal about it.

if you can find a ZEN, they are pretty bulletproof (just don't put it in the washing machine ). early Lyrica's and Zune's are pretty buggy. newer Zunes you can download the software. the newest don't even come with a disk anymore.

I know nothing about IPODs

I bet you can get a HUGE!!!!! Bargain this weekend
(wait do they do sells for memorial day?) I think they do so why not buy one this weekend?....like at Best Buy or Cuircit City.....Or Fry's Electronics.
13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/22/08 - 11:17:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
Halz...they are asking 5 or 7 dollars for them.

And Skade..no disks?

I am so glad I am asking.

So, barring the lottery, no go at yard sales. Good to know.

I know better than to go on auction sites like OLA or epier...or ebay.

But is Amazon OKay?

How cheap is cheap?

I am on a tight budget.

yeah Amazon is very good. I've bought a bunch of used and or rare books from there. their sellers are under heavy scrutiny and you are often asked to evaluate them.

yeah, no disks on the newer ones
