I just Googled their site because I read something about TLW in someone's diary.

OH THE EVIL!

Not only do I completely disagree with this line of thinking.

What bugs me is that they sell rings, pendants, magnets and all other kinds of crap with "TLW" on it.

They actually make money off it!

GHRARARGH.

I feel like crrrrap but am going to work (early, too) because I'm nice.

Amusing:

What's so evil about waiting for marriage?

I don't find waiting for marriage evil, just unnecessary and a bad idea. No offense to you or anyone who believes in that. What is evil is the money they're making off it.

Eh, they're not the first company to make money off gullible people.

It's not evil, it's just... not for everyone.

I knew the sweetest little Catholic girl who waited. Being a mom was her #1 goal in life. She didn't believe in bc, so you can imagine my surprise when two years into being married she still wasn't preggers. She said it was so bad she would probably never have children because she couldn't bear doing it.

I think when you do it before marriage, you take things at a slow and comfortable pace, where as in the case of my friend, they did nothing but hand holding and tight lipped kissing for three years, and then all of a sudden, one night he's just going at her. Ew.

I look at it like buying a car. . .I wouldn't buy a car without seeing it first, sitting in it, taking it for a test drive, making sure it fits in the garage.

People make money off of belief systems all the time... like political campaigns and stuff. Same thing. It's spreading a message, some people are willing to pay to spread a message.

I agree waiting isn't for everyone, but it's a lifestyle just like every other.

The concept of waiting for marraige is a ridiculus testament to just how overly hectic and stressful the society has gotten, and just how out of hand it's gotten.

You can't expect someone to retain their virginity until they're almost thirty. By the same token, however, I'd say it's bad for society as a whole to delay marraige that long, too.

And honestly, by the time you've got people ready and willing to f*ck, they should be at least getting ready to get married and move on to the next stage of life.

But again, we're a VERY inept group, human beings.

Why? Most of our parents were from a generation where you get married as soon as you are done with college/army. Taking a 21 year old who just got done with school and having them get married leaves them thinking there is a lot in their life they haven't experienced.

I think it's a great idea to live life as a single person for a while. Go out, make mistakes, have fun. . .that way you won't feel the need to do it when you are 8 years into a marriage with a couple kids depending on you.

I am picturing 22 year old myself getting married and having kids. . .there is so much stuff I would have missed out on in life. It wouldn't be fair to my kids or my spouse for myself to feel that way.

what happened to just having sex for pure enjoyment, not for finding "the one" or creating babies?
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 4/29/08 - 11:35:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
Because f*cking up and getting into trouble was SUPPOSED to be what you were doing when you were a stupid teenager, then you had to wait until college... Now you have to wait until AFTER college. It's not healthy to delay everything that long.

As for what happened to having sex for pure enjoyment, how is that any different than masturbation. And honestly, my opinion is that if you can TRULY divorce your emotions for a person from sex, you're either just going to a place in your head and pretty much masturbating using them OR you're a sociopath. Take your pick, but either way, it can't be done.

For me, I made the rule for myself that I'd be ready to have sex when I was emotionally ready to have a child. Because you can argue about it all you want, but while sex IS enjoyable, the biological purpose of it is to procreate So in my mind, I'm psychologically ready for it when I'm psychologically ready to make babies.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 4/29/08 - 11:46:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
Again, society problem. When procreation is this dubious undertaking instead of just this natural part of life that people go through, we've got a problem.

Amy-So if you get married but decide to wait a year or two before having children, you'll avoid making love to your husband?
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 4/29/08 - 12:09:27 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't want to speak for her but I think she means that she won't have sex until having a baby doesn't seem like a bad choice. While it might not be ideal to get pregnant on her honeymoon, she would be psychologically prepared to handle it.

I find True Love Waits to be silly. I find Purity balls to be creepy but I think that saving it for marriage is by no means a bad decision. Sometimes I wish I would have waited but what's done is done and I can't say I haven't enjoyed it sometimes.

Whatever someone's choices in regards to their sex life, it is their choice and it's not my job to judge.

I tell you what I do think is creepy - dads who give their daughters jewelry as a "promise" to stay faithful or whatever.

Whoa that is creepy.

I need to learn how to stop being surprised at all the bizarre things people do.

A guy I met at college down in Florida happened to be dating a dumb, sickly, plain girl (and I stress "girl"). They dated throughout their college years, on on graduation day (like many of their classmates) they got engaged. It's just the "Christian thing" to do there.

When they finally got married, SHOCKHORROR. Just like Heather's Catholic friend, the new Mrs. Plain Jane flat out didn't want to do it. In the first year of their marriage, he may have managed to get her in bed ONCE.

She wouldn't go to counseling, wouldn't see a doctor, wouldn't experiment, wouldn't even knock back a few glasses of white wine and pass out, ffs. I don't know why he bothered, but he stuck with it, and now (3 years later) she is finally pregnant. But can you imagine the awkwardness?? Ugh.

Even my grandmother used to say, "You wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without trying them on first!"

I keep reading that as "Tom Waits Love"

I was all ready to spread some love.

But apparently this is an anti love-spreading thread

Some chick I know is married and having a kid, and she's a year younger than me. She can kiss having a career goodbye pretty much.

Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT - mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe
